Job summary

Unison Group New Zealand is seeking a Senior Java Backend Developer to design, build, and operate scalable backend services in a cloud environment using Java 17+, Spring Boot 3.x, REST APIs, and microservices.

You will deploy on AWS (ECS, EC2, RDS, CloudWatch), own CI/CD pipelines with GitLab, work with Oracle SQL, perform performance tuning, incident response, and collaborate with DevOps, QA, and product teams to deliver robust, secure solutions.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of experience in Java Backend Development.
• Proficient in Java 17+ and Spring Boot 3.x.
• Strong REST API design and microservices experience.
• Hands-on AWS experience (ECS, EC2, RDS, CloudWatch).
• Experience with GitLab CI/CD pipelines.
• Strong SQL skills with Oracle databases.
• Production support and incident management experience.
• Familiar with Agile methodologies.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain high-performance backend applications using Java 17+ and Spring Boot 3.x.
• Develop and integrate scalable RESTful APIs.
• Build and maintain microservices-based architectures.
• Implement secure, reliable, and scalable backend solutions.
• Work with AWS services for deployment, monitoring, and troubleshooting.
• Develop and manage CI/CD pipelines using GitLab.
• Collaborate with DevOps, QA, and product owners.
• Provide production support and incident management.
• Perform code reviews, debugging, and performance tuning.
