About the Role

You will be working in Division of Medical Oncology, Cancer Genetic Service and be part of a dynamic team to provide pre and post genetic testing counselling for patients referred for hereditary cancer syndromes.

Responsibilities
  • Assess a family history to explain for possible hereditary syndromes, use validated risk models to calculate and provide advice in cancer risks, explanation on hereditary conditions and subsequent appropriate risk management during pre- counselling.
  • Assist patients to understand and manage pre-test concerns such as ethical, social and legal implications of genetic tests
  • Provide result interpretation and appropriate risk management recommendations, arrange and refer patients on to appropriate sub-specialities for management during post-counselling.
  • Handle case management of patients by documenting patients visits, communication, tests and results efficiently with timely and well co-ordinated schedules for genetic tests with laboratories
  • Collate and organise written, verbal communication, counselling details and genetic testing results in reports for Consultants.
  • Provide genetic education and supervision for genetic trainees and medical professionals
  • Participate and involved in research projects (quantitative or qualitative research) related to cancer genetics
  • Perform duties assigned by the Head of Cancer Genetics Service
Requirements
  • Master’s degree in Genetic Counselling (or equivalent)
  • Minimum 2 to 4 years of relevant working experience
  • Experience working in a cancer genetics service preferred
  • Strong analytical, written and verbal communication skills
  • Able to work autonomously and good team player
  • Demonstrate evidence-based decisiveness and possess empathy-driven counseling techniques.
