Job description

Responsibilities

• Lead multiple engineering squads or a critical product line, owning architectural direction, system design, and long-term technical strategy.
• Drive end-to-end delivery of complex, large-scale systems with high reliability, security, and performance requirements.
• Provide deep technical leadership: guide technical decisions, solve complex architectural challenges, and enforce engineering excellence across teams.
• Mentor, coach, and uplift senior engineers and tech leads, enabling strong technical ownership and growth.
• Partner with product leadership to define roadmaps, prioritise features, and align business goals with technical direction.
• Oversee system modernisation initiatives, major refactors, cloud-native transformations, and platform scaling.
• Establish robust engineering practices: CI/CD, observability, incident management, code quality, performance benchmarking.
• Lead high-impact incident response, root cause analysis, and cross-team resolution initiatives.
• Act as a trusted technical advisor to stakeholders, ensuring decisions balance innovation, risk, and long-term sustainability.

Required Skills & Experience

• 12+ years of professional software engineering experience, including strong experience leading large-scale systems or platforms.
• Proven track record as a Tech Lead or Senior Tech Lead driving architecture, high-level design, and multi-squad technical direction.
• Deep expertise in backend or distributed systems using Java, Go, or Node.js, with strong knowledge of microservices and event-driven architectures.
• Advanced experience with cloud platforms (AWS highly preferred), Kubernetes, Docker, and Infrastructure-as-Code.
• Strong command of databases (SQL/NoSQL), distributed data patterns, caching layers, and performance tuning.
• Demonstrated ability to coach senior engineers, influence engineering culture, and raise technical standards organisation-wide.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, including the ability to influence decisions at senior levels.
• Strong understanding of system reliability, security best practices, and production-grade design principles.
• Strategic mindset with the ability to balance hands-on technical depth and high-level architecture.
• Passion for building robust, impactful platforms and solving complex technical challenges at scale.
