CNA Digital is looking for a senior editor to help drive its daily commentary offerings, by working closely with editors and commentators on incisive and engaging content for a discerning international audience.
You will be expected to:
- Conceptualise insightful commentaries that react quickly to the news cycle and set the agenda by providing analysis and focus on developing local and international issues.
- Cultivate, manage and work with a diverse stable of commentators (external and internal) who can meet the highest levels of CNA's editorial standards to provide a range of opinions grounded in facts and astute insights.
- Commission, schedule and edit daily commentary pieces, as well as write one on occasion.
- Drive amplification through well‑crafted headlines, social media blurbs in various formats and platforms, using data analytics to help shape and improve offerings.
- Keep a finger on the pulse of what issues matter to CNA's audience, through attention to data analytics and social listening posts.
Qualifications
- At least 7 years of working experience in journalism, public policy or academia.
- A well‑rounded understanding of a wide spectrum of global and local issues – able to toggle easily between business, geopolitical, social, cultural and public policy topics – and the ability to turn issues into interesting commentary and analysis.
- Comfortable working in a fast‑paced environment, with a knack for identifying important conversations and questions emerging from breaking news.
- Excellent writing skills with strong editing ability to identify shortcomings in argument, language, style and flow. Experience with video journalism is a plus.
- Ability to work collaboratively with external contributors and the CNA Digital news teams.
- A wide professional network to draw on for a broader range of commentary contributors.
- Willingness to work as needed according to editorial priorities. While this role generally follows office hours, the nature of the work may mean exceptions to ensure timely output.
- Strong interpersonal and organisational skills, time management and attention to detail.
