Job summary

DSTA is seeking a Senior Development Programme Manager (Language AI) to lead the development, delivery, and adoption of advanced language AI capabilities for decision-support. You will bridge AI research and production systems, guiding cross-disciplinary teams to deliver reliable, scalable AI products in secure environments.

You will shape capability roadmaps, own product and capability roadmaps, and engage end-users to ensure high-impact adoption across operational workflows.

Qualifications

• Degree or Master’s in Computer Science, AI, or Computer Engineering.
• Proven experience leading AI, software or platform engineering teams.
• Strong knowledge of Language AI ecosystems (LLM serving, RAG, multi-agent).
• Experience deploying AI in secure, on-prem or air-gapped environments.
• Ability to translate user needs into technical specs and development loops.

We are seeking a Senior Development Programme Manager (Language AI) to lead the development, delivery, and adoption of advanced generative AI capabilities for critical operational decision-making and sensemaking. In this role, you will bridge the gap between emerging AI research and robust production systems. You will guide multidisciplinary teams in architecting solutions across multi-agent orchestration, knowledge graph synthesis, and complex information fusion, ultimately translating these technologies into highly reliable, deployable products.

You will shape capability roadmaps, architect scalable AI platforms, and engage closely with end-users to ensure high-impact adoption. This role demands a strong synthesis of technical depth in modern Language AI, product-driven thinking, and the engineering rigor required to deploy AI in complex, secure environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Strategic Execution: Lead the end-to-end execution of Language AI products, driving the architecture and deployment of agentic workflows and LLM-powered sensemaking tools for decision support.
• Roadmap Ownership: Define and own the product and capability roadmaps. Prioritize feature development to ensure solutions directly address operational challenges and deliver measurable value.
• Stakeholder & Adoption Management: Partner closely with operational stakeholders to validate complex requirements, overcome integration hurdles, and drive the successful adoption of AI capabilities in daily workflows.
• Engineering Rigor & AI Evaluation: Establish robust engineering standards tailored for AI, implementing comprehensive LLM evaluation pipelines, automated testing, and guardrails to ensure reliable, hallucination-resistant delivery.
• Cross-Functional Programme Leadership: Orchestrate multidisciplinary teams (AI engineers, software developers, UX) and manage dependencies across internal infrastructure teams and external technology partners.
• Partnership Development: Build and manage strategic collaborations with global research institutions and commercial partners to accelerate capability development and integrate state-of-the-art models.
• Technology Scouting: Continuously identify opportunities for AI disruption, evaluating new serving stacks, orchestration frameworks, and models to ensure the technological relevance of our product suite.
• Education: Degree or Master’s in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• Leadership Experience: Proven track record of leading AI, software, or platform engineering teams from conceptualization through to production deployment.
• Technical Depth: Deep understanding of modern Language AI ecosystems, including LLM serving, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), multi-agent orchestration, and foundational NLP.
• Complex Deployments: Hands-on experience navigating the complexities of deploying AI systems on-premise, within secure networks, or in resource-constrained/air-gapped environments.
• Product & Programme Acumen: Exceptional product sense and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to translate ambiguous user needs into concrete technical specifications and development loops.
• Collaboration: Experience structuring and managing technical collaborations with academic research labs or enterprise commercial partners.
• Continuous Learner: A strong, intellectually curious mindset with a passion for keeping pace with the rapidly evolving generative AI landscape.
• Communication: Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to articulate complex AI concepts to both deeply technical engineers and non-technical operational leaders.

Advantageous to Have

• Familiarity with modern AI orchestration and serving stacks (e.g., LangChain, LangGraph, vLLM, API gateway routing).
• Experience in designing systems for command, control, and sensemaking applications.
