Job summary

Housing & Development Board (HDB) is seeking a Senior Design Technologist to design, build and evolve its design system and AI tools surrounding it. You will help designers and engineers create consistent, accessible products faster while ensuring AI outputs stay on the system.

You'll work in Figma, in code repos and with designers to translate workflows into robust components, tokens and documentation. The role combines design craft with engineering collaboration and AI tooling to scale design

Qualifications

• 5+ years in product design or design engineering, with design system work.
• Portfolio showing design system components, tokens and docs.
• Strong understanding of components, tokens, theming in Figma.
• Experience building AI tools for design work.
• Ability to write scripts with Figma API/JavaScript to automate tasks.
• Comfortable collaborating with engineers in GitHub.

Job description

The Housing & Development Board (HDB) is hiring a Senior Design Technologist to build and evolve its design system and the AI tools around it. The role focuses on helping designers and engineers build consistent, accessible products faster and ensuring AI tools produce work that follows the system. It suits someone comfortable in Figma, in a code repository, and in conversations with designers about how they work.

What you'll do

• Design, build and maintain components, patterns and design tokens, including variants, theming and documentation
• Build accessibility into every component so products meet the Whole-of-Government Digital Service Standards, including WCAG AA
• Work with front-end engineers to keep design and code aligned, using tools such as Code Connect and Storybook
• Build AI tools that help designers work faster and stay on-system, such as Figma plugins, custom agents, skills and prompt templates
• Structure the design system so AI tools can read and apply it through machine-readable documentation, tokens and component data exposed through MCP or similar methods
• Write scripts to automate design system tasks such as audits, token sync and documentation
• Test new AI tools and share what works with the design team
• Support product designers and engineers who use the system through reviews and clear guidance

What they're looking for

• 5+ years of experience in product design, UI design, design engineering or a related discipline, with 2+ years working on a design system
• Portfolio showing design system work: components, tokens, documentation, and the effect on the teams who use them
• Strong grasp of component architecture, design tokens, variants and theming in Figma
• Working knowledge of accessibility standards, including WCAG AA, and how to build them into components
• Experience building AI tools for design work, such as Figma plugins, custom agents, skills or prompt templates
• Experience making design system content usable by AI tools, such as structured documentation or MCP servers
• Ability to write scripts with the Figma API, JavaScript or similar to automate design tasks
• Comfortable working in GitHub with engineers
