Occupation Description

The Senior Barista takes responsibility for guiding Junior Baristas in front of house operations, customer service and preparation of food & beverages according to their organization’s unique recipes and procedures. He/she will also support the task of keeping the serving area neat and clean, as well as keeping equipment and services fully operational by following operating and cleaning instructions, troubleshooting breakdowns, and maintain inventories by replenishing coffee bean/tea supplies, pastries and cookies for the coffee bar.

The Senior Barista should be comfortable speaking to customers and outgoing; striving to provide customers with a positive experience; he/she should possess a friendly disposition, good communication skills and be able to work in a team. He/She should set a good example for more junior members of the team. He/She is expected to work on a shift pattern to cover early mornings and late evenings, and may also need to work some weekends and public holidays. He/She should have the stamina to stay on his feet for long periods.

Barista Skills & Food Service
  • Interact with and serve F&B customers, promotes the company goals and visions
  • Maintain F&B service environment
  • Prepare and serve beverages on menu and able to educate customers on differences in drinks, preparation techniques, coffee knowledge and provides specialty coffee service
  • Prepare for beverage & food service (mise en place)
  • Maintain quality of product and service
People and Relationship Management
  • Facilitate effective communication and engagement at the workplace

  • Guide and train Junior Baristas on standard operating procedures

  • Research and develop new beverage recipes for approval
  • Participate in ideas and programs generating more sales and engagement with customers
  • Willing to keep learning and attend workshops and training, be updated on specialty coffee knowledge
Workplace Safety, Health & Hygiene
  • Maintain workplace safety and health policies and procedures set by SFA and the Company
  • Follow F&B safety and hygiene policies and procedures
  • Maintain personal hygiene and upkeep of cleanliness
Sales
  • Generates sales by equipping customers with the knowledge that helps them to drink better coffee and creating a lifestyle of coffee
  • Observe and report back on trends in sales and promotions
  • Assist customers in choosing the right products and coffees to buy that they will want to come back for your knowledge and your service and making them feel appreciated
Education, experience and certificate requirements
  • Minimum 2 years of experience working in the specialty coffee scene
  • Possess a valid food handler certificate
  • Must be able to communicate clearly and well and in English
  • Knowledge of the Specialty Coffee Industry is a plus but/or knowledge of the food and beverage industry is needed or must be keen to learn
  • Familiar and able to work in shifts, weekends, and public holidays
  • Knowledge in using a manual coffee machine, dosing, brewing, calibrating, coffee tasting
