Job summary

Coupang Play is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer for its Customer Experience team in Singapore. You will design and build scalable APIs, focusing on Live Sports and Discover experiences, serving millions of users daily with low-latency, highly available services.

You will mentor engineers, set best practices, and collaborate across product, design, and mobile teams to align technical solutions with business goals while leveraging AI to improve development velocity.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree and 2+ years of experience in server application and system engineering.
• Deep expertise in low-latency, high-throughput systems.
• Proficient with backend languages Go, Java, JavaScript, Node.js.
• Proficient with cloud computing such as AWS or GCP.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Role Overview

The Senior, Backend Engineer in the Customer Experience (CX) team is one of the key roles in the Coupang Play product organization. This role works closely with product designer, product manager, mobile, and quality engineering team to collaboratively produce awesome customer experience. You will design and develop services that serve millions of customers every day. You will lead some key projects with new API development for our key strategic growth areas such as Live Sports streaming experience. Experience in building a highly available and low latency distributed service is essential.

What You Will Do

• Design and own the architecture roadmap of our Live Sports and Discover APIs
• Develop, support, and improve key backend systems of the Coupang Play with high availability and scalability
• Formulate scalable and low-latency technical solutions to satisfy product requirements from Product Owner
• Mentor and grow a high-performing engineering team; establish best practices in code quality, system performance, and operationalexcellence
• Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to align technical solutions with business goals and compliance requirements
• Leverage AI for task automation and improve development quality and velocity

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree and 2+ years of experience in server application and system engineering using modern language
• Deep expertise in low-latency, high-throughput systems, performance profiling, and cost/performance trade-offs
• Expert with one or more of the following programming languages for backend engineering: Go, Java, JavaScript, Node.js
• Proficient with modern cloud computing such as AWS or GCP
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Production experience with video streaming and its data systems
• Ability to work with iOS and Android developers to properly integrate and troubleshoot issues with mobile app to API integration
• Experience in GraphQL
• Ability to speak and write in English in a professional environment
