Position & Team Overview

FinDev Canada’s Investments Team manages and expands our portfolio of direct and indirect investments across priority sectors and countries of operation. The team includes groups such as Financial Institutions & Funds, Sustainable Infrastructure, Blended Finance & Mobilization, and Portfolio Management. Core tasks include business development, transaction processing (debt, equity, blended finance), client relationship management, and meeting portfolio growth and mobilization targets. We are seeking a Senior Associate for the Investments Team, who will originate, structure, and manage tailored financial solutions for private sector companies in target sectors. This role is ideal for a results‑oriented team player with experience in public‑private partnerships and project finance structures, contributing to development through the private sector in emerging markets and developing economies.

What you’ll be doing

Support execution of transactions: Assist in executing and managing investment transactions across the capital structure (equity, mezzanine, senior debt, project finance or corporate debt) to maximize development impact and profitability.

Assist in market mapping: Support senior team members in market mapping and developing a strong pipeline of quality investment opportunities by anticipating market trends and employing sector / country knowledge.

Participate in deal analysis: Engage in initial deal analysis and investment transaction processing, including due diligence and financial analysis.

Assess investment opportunities: Evaluate the attractiveness of specific investment opportunities with a strong focus on credit quality and development impact and conducting industry and market research.

Conduct financial analyses: Perform detailed financial and SWOT analyses; create, develop and utilize financial models for valuation, risk assessment, and cash flow analysis (historical and projected).

Craft investment thesis: Develop investment thesis and narrative; contribute to drafting investment memoranda and other internal documents.

Introduce transactions – Present transactions and investment theses to senior management committee members.

Monitor portfolio performance: Track the performance of portfolio companies, including credit risk, impact, and E&S related trends.

Communicate proactively: Maintain reliable communication with Investments team members and other internal stakeholders.

Coordinate with colleagues: Work closely with social, environmental, gender, technical assistance, and concessional finance colleagues to add value to clients’ businesses, find pragmatic solutions to sector challenges, and achieve sustainable development impact.

Build relationships: Collaborate with senior team members to build and maintain strong relationships with clients across the region.

What we are looking for
Must haves
  • Completed CFA, MBA, or MSc in Finance, or related.
  • 3‑5 years relevant experience in investment banking, private equity, or development finance institutions.
  • Experience in investment transactions, with proven success in developing client relationships as well as sourcing, negotiating, structuring and closing quality investments (knowledge of and experience in emerging markets a plus).
  • Robust financial and credit skills; sound business judgment, modelling skills and demonstrated ability to structure a variety of financial instruments.
  • Proven ability to work independently and deliver promptly and efficiently under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Willingness to travel throughout the sub‑region.
Nice to haves
  • Investment experience in one or more of the following sectors: renewable energy and climate finance, infrastructure, agri‑supply chains, financial intermediaries.
  • Experience working in emerging markets.
  • Background in international and commercial banking, particularly with structuring experience.
  • Proficient in English. In addition, proficiency in French and / or ASEAN local language preferred.
