We are seeking a highly motivated and technically skilled scientist to join our EDDC Structural Biology team. The successful candidate will play a key role in driving protein production to support biophysical characterization and structural biology efforts within drug discovery programs.
This position requires an independent, solution-oriented scientist who can contribute to research projects and cross-functional collaborations. Experience in biophysics and structural biology will be considered a strong advantage.
Key Responsibilities
- Establish and execute recombinant protein expression, purification, and characterization workflows for both soluble and membrane proteins using prokaryotic, eukaryotic, and cell-free systems.
- Apply your scientific expertise to troubleshoot challenges and propose innovative solutions that drive experimental success.
- Collaborate across teams to optimize workflows and scale up pipelines for structural biology and biophysical characterization.
- Play a central role in coordinating protein production activities, ensuring high standards in data integrity, reproducibility, and best practices.
- Produce high-quality protein samples to support biophysical assays and structure determination efforts.
- Contribute to a collaborative and knowledge-sharing culture across functional groups within EDDC.
Qualifications and Experience
- Ph.D. or Master's degree in Biochemistry, Structural Biology, Biophysics, Molecular Biology, or a related field, with 3 - 6 years of relevant experience in academic or industry settings.
- Proven expertise in recombinant protein expression and purification using E. coli, insect, or mammalian systems.
- Hands-on experience with chromatography systems (e.g., ÄKTA or equivalent).
- Demonstrated ability to independently plan experiments, analyze data, and deliver results under tight timelines.
- Experience with biophysical characterization techniques (e.g., MST, BLI, ITC, DSF) and structural biology methods is a strong advantage.
Skills and Attributes
- Strong foundation in protein engineering, including tagging strategies and construct design.
- Familiarity with high-throughput systems for protein expression and purification, including small-scale screening approaches.
- A proactive and adaptable mindset, with a collaborative spirit and a passion for solving complex scientific challenges.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment and contribute meaningfully to team goals.
