1. Laboratory Preparation and Setup
- Prepare materials, apparatus, and/ specimens for science lessons.
- Set up and test experimental apparatus before lessons to ensure functionality and safety.
- Assist teachers in conducting practical lessons, demonstrations and science experiments.
- Dismantle and clean up after experiments, ensuring all equipment is properly stored.
2. Laboratory Maintenance and Housekeeping
- Maintain cleanliness and tidiness of laboratories, preparation rooms, and storage areas.
- Clean and wash laboratory apparatus, glassware, and equipment after use.
- Ensure that equipment and facilities are well-maintained and in working condition.
- Assist in regular pest control, ventilation, and general upkeep of laboratory areas.
3. Safety and Compliance
- Ensure compliance with safety guidelines.
- Keep Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for all chemicals and ensure proper labelling of bottles and containers.
- Assist in the safe storage, handling, and disposal of chemicals and biological waste.
4. Inventory and Resource Management
- Maintain inventory of science apparatus, chemicals, and consumables.
- Conduct stock-taking and update inventory records regularly.
- Prepare and propose procurement of science materials and equipment to HOD Science/ LH Science.
- Receive and verify delivery of items ordered and ensure proper storage.
5. Support for Green Environment Initiatives
- Maintain life stocks such as plants and other living specimens used in science lessons.
- Maintain and monitor the operations of hydroponic system, support the upkeep of garden green spaces through working closely with engaged landscaping company.
- Collect plant specimens from the garden or hydroponic system for science experiments.
- Assist teachers in preparing materials for environmental activities.
- Coordinate with garden vendors for specimen collection and garden maintenance.
Qualifications
- Minimum:GCE ‘O’ Level with passes in Science subjects, or NITEC/Higher NITEC in Science related field.
- Responsible and safety conscious.
- Punctual, reliable, and able to work independently under minimal supervision.
- Medically fit to handle laboratory duties (some lifting or movement of equipment may be required).
Knowledge and Skills
- Basic understanding of laboratory procedures, measurement, and scientific apparatus.
- Familiarity with MOE school laboratory safety standards and Workplace Safety and Health (WSH) requirements.
- Competent in handling chemicals, reagents, and simple experimental setups.
- Organised, meticulous, and able to maintain inventory and laboratory records accurately.
- Good housekeeping and cleaning practices in a science lab environment.
- Able to use basic computer applications (e.g. Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word) for administrative tasks and stock management.
- Prior working experience in a school laboratory, research lab, or industrial laboratory will be an advantage.
Working Hours:
- Mondays to Thursdays: 7:15 am to 4.15 pm, inclusive of half an hour lunch break.
- Fridays: 7.15 a.m. to 3.45 p.m, inclusive of half an hour lunch break.
- Service not required on Saturdays, Sundays and gazetted public holidays
