School of Applied Science - Research Assistant (Aquaculture)

What the role is

What the role is: School of Applied Science - Research Assistant (Aquaculture).

What you will be working on
  • Plan and conduct life science related R&D experiments and routine operations with a focus on aquaculture such as husbandry, fish breeding, developmental biology, transcriptomics, routine molecular biology techniques, optimization of operations, diagnostics, health, genetics
  • Work with the project leader and co-project leaders to achieve the aim of the research projects.
  • Mentor students involved in final year projects, internships, short-term work attachments, and similar programmes.
  • Support the procurement of consumables and equipment together with lab management.
What we are looking for
  • Relevant qualification in life science, Aquaculture, Agriculture or molecular biology.
  • Experience in aquaculture operations and/or research would be an added advantage.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build strong working relationships with people at all levels.
  • Possess sound planning, organising, good multi-tasking skills, with a strong sense of responsibility for completing assigned duties on time.
  • Proficient in IT skills.
  • Good documentation skills, laboratory techniques, research and data analysis skills.
  • Successful candidate will be employed on a contract basis and will be based either fully or on a rotational basis at one of the local partner institutions.
