Job summary

A consulting firm in Singapore is seeking an experienced Sales Manager to drive growth in the international wood trading sector. With a minimum of 10 years in the industry and a deep understanding of market dynamics, the ideal candidate will manage a team, establish key international relationships, and ensure compliance with import/export regulations. Proficiency in Japanese and Korean is essential for effective communication with headquarters and clients. This role requires excellent negotiation skills and frequent international travel.

Qualifications

Job description
Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and executive relationships strategies and plans to drive sales growth in line with company goals.
  • Build and maintain relationships with international buyers, such as Japanese or Korean potential buyer companies, to ensure the availability of products in target markets.
  • Manage the sales process from initial contact through to final delivery, ensuring customer satisfaction at every wood and material trading stage.
  • Analyze market trends and customer needs to identify potential new product opportunities and make recommendations to senior management or headquarters in Japan.
  • Develop and maintain a deep understanding of the company's products, competitors, and target markets, as well as exploring marketing opportunity surrounding the international wood trading industry.
  • Build and manage a team of 5+ sales representatives to ensure sales targets are met.
  • Provide regular sales forecasts, reports and feedback to senior management or headquarters in Japan.
  • Develop and manage budgets and expenses to ensure cost-effective operations.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant international import & export regulations and standards.
Qualifications and Skills

Educational Background: Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Economy, Commerce or a related field.

Relevant Industry Experience: Minimum of 10 years' experience in wood & building material trading industry, with strong familiarity in regional and international market dynamics.

Sales & Leadership Experience: At least 5 years of experience in international sales and sales team management, with a proven track record in driving revenue growth, expanding market shares and developing high-performing teams.

Leadership & Management Competencies: Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate and develop sales teams. Strong skills in strategic planning, performance management, stakeholder engagement and cross-border coordination.

Language Proficiency:

  • Japanese: Proficiency at \"N1\" level or equivalent, required to prepare periodic reports and communicate effectively with headquarters in Japan.
  • Korean: Business-level proficiency or above, required to liaise with and manage a significant portion of the international customer portfolio, which includes major clients based in South Korea.
  • English: Strong command of written and spoken English, as it is a primary working language of the Singapore office.

Communication & Interpersonal Skills: Excellent communication, negotiation and presentation skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse international stakeholders.

Business Travel Requirements: Ability to travel internationally as required for client meetings, market visits and business development activities, at least once per month.
