Job Overview

Tecson Engineering Pte Ltd is looking for a proactive Safety Coordinator to manage workplace safety, health, and environmental compliance for rail engineering projects, primarily with SMRT. The candidate will play a critical role in ensuring that all project activities align with statutory safety standards and client-specific requirements, fostering a safe and productive work environment.

The ideal candidate will have at least 2 years of experience in construction safety, preferably in infrastructure or rail projects, and demonstrate excellent organizational skills with a hands-on, proactive approach to safety.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Safety Compliance
    • Implement and maintain Workplace Safety and Health (WSH) plans for rail engineering projects.
    • Conduct daily site inspections to ensure compliance with SMRT and regulatory safety standards.
    • Identify and mitigate workplace hazards, ensuring that all safety risks are managed effectively.
    • Ensure compliance with local safety regulations, including those set by the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) and Workplace Safety and Health Council (WSHC).
  2. Risk Assessment and Incident Reporting
    • Conduct and document risk assessments for all work activities and ensure they are communicated to relevant personnel.
    • Investigate workplace incidents, accidents, and near-misses, providing detailed reports and recommending corrective actions.
    • Prepare and submit incident reports to relevant authorities (e.g., MOM) as required.
  3. Training and Awareness
    • Conduct safety induction sessions for new employees and subcontractors.
    • Provide regular toolbox talks and safety training, focusing on key topics such as work-at-height safety, PPE usage, and safe operating procedures.
    • Foster a proactive safety culture by raising awareness and encouraging reporting of unsafe conditions.
  4. Coordination and Communication
    • Work closely with Project Managers, Engineers, and Subcontractors to ensure safety standards are upheld throughout all project phases.
    • Serve as the primary point of contact for safety-related matters on-site.
    • Ensure all work activities requiring permits (e.g., Permit-to-Work) are properly coordinated and documented.
  5. Documentation and Reporting
    • Maintain safety documentation, including risk assessments, inspection checklists, safety audit reports, and training records.
    • Prepare monthly safety reports, including key performance indicators (KPIs) such as incident rates, non-conformance records, and safety training conducted.
  6. Emergency Preparedness
    • Ensure the emergency response plan is established and all personnel are trained to handle potential emergencies.
    • Conduct emergency drills and inspect firefighting and first-aid equipment regularly.
Qualifications and Requirements
Educational Background
  • Minimum Diploma in Workplace Safety and Health, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Advanced Certificate in Workplace Safety and Health (WSHC-recognized).
Experience
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in construction safety, preferably in infrastructure or rail engineering projects.
Certifications
  • Work-at-Height (WAH) Assessor Certification (preferred).
  • Confined Space Safety Assessor Certification (preferred).
  • Other relevant MOM/WSHC-recognized safety certifications will be an advantage.
Skills
  • Strong knowledge of WSH regulations and Singapore’s safety standards.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills to engage with workers, subcontractors, and management.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to foresee and address safety risks proactively.
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Office and basic safety management software.
