Job description

The Institute of High Performance Computing (IHPC), A*STAR, is hiring a full-time Research Officer for the project Adult Learning for Career Change: Motivating Skills Transfer and Reskilling, led by Dr. Sun Lining. The position will last for 12 months from 31 Jan 2026 to 30 Jan 2027.

We are looking for enthusiastic, motivated individuals who are passionate about using psychological research to improve people’s motivation to engage in lifelong learning. This project aims to foster the cognitive and motivational capabilities of Singaporean adult learners, enabling them to overcome skill adoption challenges related to career change. We will design and validate scales to measure awareness of skills transferability, confidence in reskilling, and career change self‑efficacy, to better understand the psychological factors that motivate adults to pursue and sustain career transitions.

The Research Officer will be heavily involved in multiple stages of the entire research process. You will work closely with Dr. Sun Lining and other senior scientists to support, design, and conduct our grant‑funded research.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct literature review related to adult learning and career change.
  • Manage end‑to‑end online data collection.
  • Conduct data analyses on survey data using tools such as R and Excel.
  • Write reports and manuscripts, prepare presentation materials.
  • Support and handle grant management tasks. (e.g., IRB, grants, procurement, vendor selection)
  • Manage the relationships with collaborators and vendors.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree or above in Psychology, Education or equivalent.
  • Relevant experience in designing and conducting surveys and experiments, recruiting adult participants, performing data analyses, and writing empirical papers.
  • A strong statistical background and some programming skills (e.g., with R, Excel).

The Research Officer position is ideal for those keen on pursuing a Ph.D. in social psychology, educational psychology, and I/O psychology. It is an excellent opportunity to gain experience conducting psychological research, to work with a team passionate about improving people’s well‑being, and to get a strong recommendation letter for graduate school.

The above eligibility criteria are not exhaustive. A*STAR may include additional selection criteria based on its prevailing recruitment policies. These policies may be amended from time to time without notice. We regret that only shortlisted candidates will be notified.
