Job description

Established in 2010, the Energy Research Institute @ NTU (ERI@N) is a pan-university research institute that focuses on systems-level research for tropical megacities. It performs translational research that covers the energy value chain from generation to innovative end-use solutions, motivated by industrialisation and deployment. ERI@N has multiple Interdisciplinary Research Programmes which focus on translational Research, Development & Deployment which focus on specific area of the energy value chain, and a number of Living labs and Testbeds which facilitate large scale technology deployment enabling validation and demonstration of real-world applications. For more details, please view https://www.ntu.edu.sg/erian We are looking for a Research Fellow to design and develop advanced power electronics systems in flow-based energy storage. The role will involve participation in joint research innovation activities, as well as technology translation, management, and reporting.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and develop advanced power electronics systems for flow-based energy storage.
  • Develop test plans and conduct laboratory testing to verify system performance under various operating conditions.
  • Prepare comprehensive technical documentation, including design and test reports, control models, test results, and source code.
  • Support technology translation activities, including transferring research outcomes into practical engineering solutions and commercially viable products.
  • Manage and lead the research team, including task planning, technical guidance, progress tracking, and coordination across stakeholders.
  • Report research progress and outcomes to the Principal Investigator (PI) and the funding agency.
Job Requirements:
  • PhD degree in power electronics engineering or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of relevant R&D experience in high-power, high-efficiency power electronics systems.
  • Familiarity with the development process of high-power power electronics systems (>10 kW) and hands-on engineering design experience.
  • Solid knowledge of energy storage systems, with familiarity in flow-based energy storage technologies, including the characteristics of flow batteries, as well as their battery management systems (BMS) and energy management systems (EMS).
  • Strong understanding of silicon carbide (SiC) power devices, with hands-on experience in designing and debugging SiC gate driver circuits, including experience with double-pulse testing.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficiency in power electronics simulation and design tools such as PSIM, PLECS, and Altium Designer; familiarity with industrial communication protocols (e.g., CAN, Modbus); and experience with embedded C/C++ programming for implementing control algorithms on DSPs and FPGAs.
  • Ability to lead a team and work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong analytical, documentation, and communication skills, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in dynamic, cross-functional, and fast-paced research environments.

We regret to inform that only shortlisted candidates will be notified.
