We are looking for a Research Fellow to assist the PI in conducting research specified in a sponsored project. The role will focus on additive manufacturing of metallic materials and coatings and conduct detailed studies on their microstructures, mechanical properties, corrosion, stress corrosion cracking, hydrogen embrittlement, and erosion responses.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Additive manufacturing of metallic components

  • Microstructural characterization

  • Tensile property characterization

  • Fracture toughness and fatigue crack growth characterization

  • Corrosion, stress corrosion cracking, erosion, and hydrogen embrittlement studies

  • Write scientific reports and publications

  • Mentor MSc and FYP students

Job Requirements:

  • PhD degree in Materials Science & Engineering or Mechanical Engineering from a reputed institution that is well-known in the fields of study required for executing the project. Only those who have already obtained their PhD degree at the time of application will be considered.

  • Relevant hands-on experience in advanced alloys and their microstructural and mechanical property characterization. Proficiency in corrosion, SCC, HE, and allied fields and microstructural characterization techniques such as SEM, TEM, EBSD, nanoindentation.

  • Demonstrated expertise in high level research through a good scientific publication record, especially in standard journals of the research area. At least one or more papers in Acta Materialia as the first author is a must.

  • Good written and oral communication skills, with demonstrated record of outstanding scientific publication record.

  • Interpersonal skills (e.g. Ability to work independently / develop solutions under strict timelines, meticulous and eye for details / excellent organizational / time management skills).
