Job description

The Research Fellow will play a dual role at the Cancer Science Institute of Singapore (CSI Singapore), combining independent and collaborative research with operational and scientific support of the Spatial Biology Core (SBC). The appointee will contribute domain expertise in bioimaging and spatial biology while ensuring the effective management of research laboratory operations, platforms, and users. This role supports CSI Singapore's mission to advance cutting‑edge cancer research from basic discovery through to translational and clinical applications, with particular emphasis on cancers prevalent in Asia.

Spatial Biology Core Support and Service Delivery
  • Provide hands‑on technical and scientific support for Spatial Biology Core platforms, including microscopy, live‑cell imaging, high‑content screening, and spatial profiling technologies
  • Advise researchers on experimental design, sample preparation, assay selection, and data interpretation related to bioimaging and spatial biology workflows.
  • Support internal and external users of the Core by delivering high‑quality, reproducible services aligned with best practices and institutional standards.
  • Contribute to the development, optimisation, and validation of new assays, workflows, and protocols within the Core.
  • Train and mentor students, research assistants, and Core users on laboratory techniques, imaging platforms, and spatial biology methodologies.
Research Laboratory and Facility Management
  • Oversee day‑to‑day laboratory operations to ensure compliance with institutional, safety, and regulatory requirements.
  • Manage laboratory resources, including equipment, consumables, reagents, and inventories, to ensure operational efficiency and cost‑effectiveness.
  • Coordinate equipment maintenance, servicing, calibration, and troubleshooting with vendors and institutional facilities teams.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) for laboratory and Core activities.
  • Ensure compliance with biosafety, chemical safety, and data management policies.
Qualifications
  • PhD in Cancer Biology, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Bioengineering, Biomedical Sciences, or a related discipline.
  • Strong background in bioimaging, spatial biology, or tissue‑based molecular analysis.
  • Hands‑on experience with microscopy platforms (e.g. confocal, live‑cell imaging, high‑content imaging) and/or spatial profiling technologies.
  • Experience working with FFPE and/or fresh/frozen tissue samples is preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage laboratory operations and support shared research facilities.
  • Strong analytical, organisational, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams.
