Offer Description

As a University of Applied Learning, SIT works closely with industry in our research pursuits. Our research staff will have the opportunity to be equipped with applied research skill sets that are relevant to industry demands while working on research projects in SIT.

This position has been established in partnership with ENGIE. The primary objective of the project is to design and develop a thermal energy storage system utilizing phase change materials for the District Cooling System at SIT Punggol campus. The main responsibilities include contributing to the optimisation of the system's design through simulation, as well as participating in the fabrication and testing of a proof-of-concept prototype.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assists in co-supervision of capstone project students under the Project PI.
  • Performs PCM development, Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations and experimentation. CFD modeling will include heat transfer and phase change of storage material in an optimised storage tank.
  • Meeting the deliverables by carrying out the planned for under the scope of work of the projects within the timeframe so as to meet the deliverables.
  • Research work will be carried out mostly at SIT Punggol Campus.
  • Assists the PI in drafting reports, conference proceedings and journal articles based on the outcome of the projects.
  • Prepares and shares fortnightly report of results with the program director and PI.
  • Any other ad-hoc duties assigned.
Job Requirements
  • Bachelor’s in mechanical engineering or related fields
  • Strong knowledge and experience in simulation and working of Phase Change Material is advantageous
  • Familiarity with CFD applications working on industrial related projects using high performance computing clusters would also be advantageous
  • Strong prior experience in CFD – particularly in applying fluid mechanics and heat transfer to create integrated mechanical designs/systems.
  • Experience in experimentation is advantageous.
  • Able to work independently with strong data analytical skills, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Passionate about training, coaching and mentoring junior practitioners.
  • Able to build and maintain strong working relationships with people within and external to the university.
  • Flexibility to work across functions/teams as part of a team in a dynamic environment
