Job summary

The Alibaba-NTU Global e-Sustainability CorpLab (ANGEL) is seeking a Research Engineer at NTU to advance AI-powered sustainable living solutions. You will design, implement, and evaluate AI models, focusing on multimodal data and green recommendations, collaborating with a multidisciplinary team.

Ideal candidates hold a Master’s degree in CS/AI, with strong Python and PyTorch skills, and experience in NLP/LLMs, or recommendation systems, with a track record of research or publications.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Computer Science, AI, or related field (PhD candidates welcome).
• Strong programming and software development skills with AI-based systems.
• Experience or knowledge in NLP, LLMs, multimodal AI, or recommendation systems.
• Research or project experience in data-driven AI and intelligent systems is preferred.
• Experience with multimodal datasets is an advantage.
• Good communication and teamwork skills for multidisciplinary work.
• Academic research or publications are an asset.

Responsibilities

The Alibaba-NTU Global e-Sustainability CorpLab (ANGEL) represents a key collaboration between Alibaba Group and Nanyang Technological University (NTU). Supported by the Singapore RIE2025 Fund, ANGEL creates and deploys impactful green digital technologies for global sustainability.

We are seeking a highly motivated and technically capable Research Engineer to support research work under the project "Sustainable Living".

Key Responsibilities:

• Collaborate closely with the Principal Investigator (PI) and research team to design, develop, and evaluate AI-driven solutions for sustainable living and green recommendation systems.
• Collect, organize, clean, and preprocess multimodal datasets, including textual, behavioral, contextual, and sustainability-related data, for AI modeling and analysis.
• Develop efficient data processing and experimentation workflows to support user modeling, preference understanding, behavior analysis, and personalized sustainability recommendations.
• Conduct experiments, evaluate model performance, analyze results, and iteratively improve AI models and systems.
• Collaborate with researchers from different disciplines and contribute to research publications, technical reports, project deliverables, and demonstrations.

Job Requirements:

• Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, or a related discipline. Candidates who are currently pursuing a Ph.D. are also welcome.
• Strong programming and software development skills, with the ability to implement and evaluate AI-based systems.
• Knowledge or practical experience in one or more of the following areas such as Natural Language Processing (NLP), Large Language Models (LLMs), Multimodal Artificial Intelligence, Recommendation Systems, Intelligent/Agentic AI, etc.
• Research or project experience in data-driven AI, intelligent systems, recommendation systems, or related applications is preferred.
• Experience working with multimodal or domain-specific datasets is an advantage.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a proactive approach to addressing technical challenges.
• Good communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary research environment.
• Experience with academic research, publications, or participation in research projects is an advantage.
