Job summary

Singapore Centre for 3D Printing (SC3DP) at NTU seeks a Research Associate to advance in vitro bioelectronic tissue models through biofabrication and biomaterials engineering. You will design and fabricate cell-laden hydrogel constructs and conductive biomaterials, then characterize their biology, structure, and function.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Bioengineering or related field.
  • At least 3 years of relevant experience in tissue engineering, biomaterials, biofabrication, cell culture, or related experimental work.
  • Familiarity with mammalian cell culture practices, sterile techniques, hydrogel preparation, and biofabrication workflows.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficiency in experimental laboratory techniques, microscopy imaging, data analysis, quantitative characterization, and scientific reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and optimize biofabrication workflows for in vitro tissue models.
  • Prepare and characterize hydrogels, conductive inks, and bioinks.
  • Perform 3D bioprinting and post-fabrication processing of tissue constructs.
  • Conduct mammalian cell culture, maintenance, and biological assays.
  • Perform electrical stimulation and functional characterization experiments.
  • Carry out microscopy imaging and quantitative analysis of biological samples.
  • Support electrochemical and materials characterization experiments where required.
  • Maintain accurate experimental records and assist with manuscript/report preparation.
  • Contribute to laboratory operations, procurement, and equipment maintenance.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary research teams and external collaborators.

Job description

The Singapore Centre for 3D Printing (SC3DP) is a research centre conducting fundamental and applied research in all aspects related to additive manufacturing. Our vision is to be the world leader in 3D Printing and a wellspring of knowledge, delivering state of the art and innovative solutions to the industry. SC3DP is at the forefront of developing advanced technologies and high-impact research in areas such biomedical, construction, aerospace, marine and offshore. It is one of the very few research centres globally with multi-sector 3D printing expertise. SC3DP's research achievements, high-level industry collaboration, comprehensive facilities and resources have positioned it as a leading hub for 3D printing research and innovation globally.

We are looking for a Research Associate to support the development of in vitro bioelectronic tissue models through biofabrication and biomaterials engineering. The role will focus on the design and fabrication of cell-laden hydrogel constructs, conductive biomaterials, and engineered tissue platforms, as well as their biological, structural, and functional characterization. The Research Associate will contribute to interdisciplinary research at the interface of tissue engineering, biofabrication, biomaterials, and bioelectronics, supporting the development of physiologically relevant in vitro models for fundamental research and translational applications.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and optimize biofabrication workflows for in vitro tissue models

Job Requirements:

  • Competent in soft skills including problem-solving, adaptability, interdisciplinary collaboration, and scientific communication
  • Ability to work independently, develop solutions under strict timelines, and maintain meticulous experimental records with strong organizational and time management skills
