Job Description

The successful candidate will work with Dr Pang Bo on biomass-derived functional hydrogels and bioplastics under a project on Coir-Derived Multifunctional Bioplastics for Fruit and Vegetable Packaging.

The main responsibilities of the position include:

  • Design and conduct laboratory experiments related to biomass-derived functional hydrogels and bioplastics for food packaging applications. This includes the synthesis, characterization, and performance evaluation of hydrogels and bioplastics.
  • Collect, process, and analyze experimental data using appropriate scientific methods and tools.
  • Prepare scientific manuscripts, reports, and presentations for dissemination of research findings in peer-reviewed journals and conferences.
  • Provide guidance and supervision to undergraduate students involved in related research projects.
  • Contribute to the daily operations of the laboratory, including maintenance of equipment and adherence to safety protocols.
Qualifications

Qualifications / Discipline:

  • A Master’s or PhD degree (or equivalent) in Polymer Chemistry, Materials Science, or a related field.
  • Strong academic or research background in polymer chemistry, sustainable materials, hydrogels, or bioplastics.

Skills:

  • Proficient in laboratory techniques for polymer synthesis and characterization (e.g., FTIR, DSC, TGA, SEM, tensile testing).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective scientific writing and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Good organizational skills and attention to detail.

Experience:

  • Prior research experience in polymers, biodegradable materials, or sustainable packaging applications is highly preferred.
  • Experience in preparing manuscripts or technical reports.
  • Experience supervising or mentoring students is an advantage.
