Job summary

Duke-NUS Medical School is seeking a Research Assistant to support planning and execution of research projects in the Office of Research at Outram Campus. The role involves coordinating activities, literature reviews and data management with a cross-disciplinary team.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • Prior experience in clinical research or health services research is advantageous; entry-level candidates may be considered.
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Excel; basic competency in at least one statistical software or programming language (e.g. STATA, SPSS, SAS, R or Python).
  • Familiarity with REDCap/electronic data capture systems and literature screening tools (EndNote, Zotero, Covidence, Rayyan) is advantageous.
  • Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving abilities and willingness to learn new methods.
  • Able to manage multiple tasks, timelines and stakeholders in a dynamic research environment; work independently and in a team.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication with clinicians and researchers.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct literature reviews, scoping/systematic reviews and evidence synthesis; manage references and prepare concise summaries.
  • Support data acquisition, extraction from approved sources, data cleaning, database maintenance, coding and basic descriptive analyses.
  • Assist with participant recruitment, consent-taking, survey administration, follow-up calls and medical-record review where applicable.
  • Prepare and maintain study documentation, including protocols, study manuals, data dictionaries, training materials and logs.
  • Support ethics/regulatory submissions, amendments and progress reports under supervision.
  • Coordinate project activities, scheduling, meeting minutes, action trackers and stakeholder liaison.
  • Assist with procurement, logistics and organisation of seminars and academic events.
  • Prepare abstracts, posters, manuscripts, data visualisations, slides and dashboards; contribute to dissemination and project demos.
  • Maintain compliance with policies, PDPA, data security and safety requirements.
  • Perform other duties incidental to the work described.

Job Description

The selected candidate will perform a variety of research activities, including planning, coordinating, organising and supporting research studies, including but not limited to the following:-

  • Support the planning, coordination and day-to-day execution of research projects.
  • Conduct literature reviews, scoping/systematic reviews and evidence synthesis; manage references and prepare concise summaries.
  • Support data acquisition, extraction from approved sources, data cleaning, database maintenance, coding and basic descriptive analyses, while ensuring data quality and confidentiality.
  • Assist with participant recruitment, consent-taking, survey administration, follow-up calls and medical-record review where applicable, after appropriate training and approvals.
  • Prepare and maintain study documentation, including protocols, study manuals, case report forms, data dictionaries, training materials, delegation logs and study files.
  • Support ethics/regulatory submissions, amendments, institutional documentation, progress reports and grant/funder reporting under supervision.
  • Coordinate project activities, including scheduling, meeting minutes, action trackers, milestone monitoring and liaison with internal/external stakeholders.
  • Assist with project management, procurement, logistics and organisation of seminars, workshops, training sessions and academic events.
  • Support the preparation of abstracts, posters, manuscripts, data visualisations, slides, dashboards and project reports; contribute to research dissemination and occasional project demonstrations.
  • Maintain compliance with Duke-NUS policies, research ethics, PDPA, data security and safety requirements.
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described therein.
Qualifications

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Public Health, Life Sciences, Biomedical Sciences, Nursing, Allied Health, Psychology, Social Sciences, Epidemiology, Statistics, Data Science or a related discipline.
  • Prior experience in clinical research, health services research, emergency medicine, pre-hospital care, public health, epidemiology or data-related projects will be advantageous. Entry-level candidates with strong aptitude for research may be considered.
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Excel; basic competency in at least one statistical software package or programming language (e.g. STATA, SPSS, SAS, R or Python) is desirable.
  • Familiarity with REDCap/electronic data capture systems, reference management and literature screening tools (e.g. EndNote, Zotero, Covidence, Rayyan) will be an advantage.
  • Possess strong analytical thinking, problem-solving abilities and willingness to learn new research methods and operational workflows.
  • Able to manage multiple tasks, timelines and stakeholders in a dynamic research environment, while working independently and collaboratively in an interdisciplinary team.
  • Have excellent written and verbal communication skills, with ability to liaise professionally with clinicians, researchers, and technical staff.
