Job summary

SME Careers, a fast-growing AI Data Services company and subsidiary of SuperAnnotate, seeks an IP Subject Matter Expert on an hourly remote contractor basis. You will review AI-generated IP/legal responses and create expert IP content, evaluating reasoning quality and providing precise feedback.

You will assess accuracy, clarity, completeness, licensing considerations, and risk-aware reasoning, writing high-quality explanations and model answers that improve AI models.

Qualifications

• JD/LLB (or equivalent) and active bar membership (or eligibility) in at least one jurisdiction; registration to practice before a patent office is a plus (for patent-focused work).
• 5+ years of professional experience in IP law (law firm, in-house, or government), spanning one or more areas: copyright, trademark, patent, trade secrets, or licensing.
• Experience with IP agreements and workflows: assignments, NDAs, license agreements, work-for-hire, open-source licensing review, creator/vendor contracts.
• Comfort assessing practical risk: likelihood of confusion (trademarks), substantial similarity/defenses (copyright), novelty/non-obviousness basics (patents), and confidentiality measures (trade secrets).
• Excellent attention to detail when identifying missing assumptions, jurisdictional pitfalls, overconfident claims, or unsafe drafting; minimum C1 English proficiency.
• Ability to communicate complex IP concepts to non-lawyers in clear, plain language.
• Reliable, self-directed, and able to deliver consistent quality in an hourly, remote contractor workflow across time zones.
• Prior experience with AI data training/annotation, knowledge management, legal editorial QA, or policy drafting is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develop AI Training Content: Create detailed prompts and gold-standard IP outputs (issue analyses, clause rewrites, checklists, policy-style guidance, scenario walkthroughs).
• Optimize AI Performance: Evaluate and rank AI responses to improve correctness, defensibility, clarity, and risk awareness.
• Ensure Model Integrity: Test AI outputs for inaccuracies, misleading certainty, confidentiality risks, and bias; validate reliability across IP scenarios.
