Job description

Department: Quality Job Title: Quality Control Engineer Reports To: Quality Manager

The Quality Control Engineer is a hands-on metrology and shop‑floor role responsible for ensuring that CNC‑machined components meet drawing, specification, and regulatory requirements. The role owns First Article Inspection (FAI) planning and execution, develops/maintains CMM programs, drives calibration and measurement system integrity, and partners closely with Production and Engineering to resolve quality issues rapidly and sustainably.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
A. First Article & In-Process Quality
  • Plan, execute, and document First Article Inspection (FAI) per customer standards, including ballooning drawings, control plan alignment, sampling plans, FAIR compilation, and submission.
  • Establish inspection plans for new and transferred parts: critical‑to‑quality dimensions, gauge selection, and in‑process checkpoints.
  • Perform receiving, in‑process, and final inspections using CMM, optical comparator/scope, height gauges, bore gauges, micrometers, surface plates, and profilometers.
B. CMM & Metrology Systems
  • Create, optimize, and run CMM programs for new parts; validate programs and troubleshoot measurement anomalies.
  • Maintain metrology standards: GR&R/MSA studies, fixture design for repeatable setups, and alignment strategies (datum scheme, GD&T).
  • Manage calibration schedules, records, and compliance for all monitoring & measuring equipment; ensure timely calibration and segregation of out‑of‑tolerance instruments.
C. Nonconformance & Corrective Action
  • Lead NCR containment and root‑cause analyses, implement corrective/preventive actions (CAPA), and verify effectiveness.
  • Respond to internal and customer quality feedback; prepare investigation reports and support audit follow‑ups with documented evidence.
D. Process & Cross-Functional Support
  • Collaborate with CNC Programmers/Production Engineers to ensure manufacturability, measurement access, and robust process flows from incoming to outgoing (including sub‑contractor processes).
  • Contribute to SOPs/work instructions for inspection methods and special processes; train technicians/operators on gauge handling, measurement technique, and defect prevention.
  • Support supplier quality activities (incoming inspection criteria, FAIRs, and gauge/tooling readiness).
