Position: PV Design Engineer
Roles & Responsibilities
As a PV Design Engineer, you will lead the design and development of solar energy systems from concept to execution. You will work closely with project managers, professional engineers, Licensed Electrical Workers (LEWs), electrical engineers, and contractors to ensure the successful delivery of solar projects. Your role is critical in optimizing system performance and ensuring all designs meet relevant engineering standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and support the engineering design review process, including the review of EPC master document lists, system sizing, layout optimization, structural design, and balance of system components.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external EPC contractors to integrate solar PV systems into existing structures and infrastructure, ensuring compliance with IEC and local engineering standards.
- Create detailed electrical drawings such as single-line diagrams, panel schedules, and connection diagrams using CAD software.
- Perform comprehensive electrical calculations for both DC and AC components of the system.
- Review and interpret PVsyst simulation reports and performance ratio (PR) calculations.
- Assist in securing endorsements from Professional Engineers and LEWs for engineering documentation, analysis, and drawings.
- Provide technical support throughout the project lifecycle, including during design reviews, installation, start-up, testing, commissioning, and performance monitoring.
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to technical knowledge sharing across project teams.
- Stay updated on industry developments, including emerging technologies and best practices, and integrate them into project designs where applicable.
- Act as the document controller for the master document list, ensuring all submissions and transmittals are accurately tracked.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Demonstrated experience in designing and engineering solar PV systems, ideally within the construction or energy sector.
- Strong knowledge of solar PV technologies, system configurations, and components.
- Solid understanding of electrical systems, grid integration, and power distribution.
- Familiarity with Singapore's local building codes, electrical regulations, and permitting processes.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with sound engineering judgment.
- Effective communicator with the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders.
- Proficient in AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and solar design tools such as PVsyst and Helioscope.
- Willing and able to perform site surveys, including working at heights and in hot or sunny environments.
- Capable of maintaining prolonged mental focus and stamina.
- Required to maintain a healthy BMI suitable for fieldwork.
