Job summary

Job description
Overview

You will perform a wide variety of molecular microbiology diagnostic and research tests on patient specimens and report results of the tests according to established protocols in the Microbiology Section of the Department of Laboratory Medicine (DLM) in Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH) and the National Centre for Infectious Diseases (NCID), to help clinicians diagnose, treat diseases, and monitor therapy.

You will also be receiving and sorting specimens, assessing suitability of specimens for testing, data entry of test requests, and rejection of specimens that are unsuitable for testing.

You will perform appropriate molecular analysis on specimens using established protocols, and plan, execute and lead laboratory verification or evaluation tests on new assays.

You will participate in quality assurance and quality control programmes in the Microbiology Section and conduct training and mentoring of new and existing staff in molecular microbiology.

You will develop and lead in initiatives to review and improve processes within the Section to achieve organisational goals and support the Section Leader in operational and administrative matters.

You will assist in managing services and resources to achieve department strategic goals and outcome targets.

Qualifications

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Laboratory Science, Clinical Microbiology, Biomedical Sciences, Medical Laboratory Sciences, Medical Technology, Biological Sciences, Biotechnology, Life Sciences, or any other equivalent qualification.
  • At least 5 years of experience in molecular diagnostics, with the right aptitude and skills. Seniority of appointment will be commensurate with experience.
  • Able to work efficiently, meticulously and responsibly in a fast-paced environment independently, as well as in a team
  • Possesses good interpersonal, organisational, coordination, communication, and computer skills
  • Able to work 3-rotating-shift work patterns, including staggered and extended working hours, and coverage after hours and on weekends and public holidays to meet the needs of the department and hospital
