The Team:

APAC power and renewables research and analytics team sits under S&P Global Energy CERA, delivering in-depth power market fundamentals analysis and analytics, short- and long-term market outlooks, market insights, pricing and market mechanisms tracking, procurement mechanisms and other relevant topics that serve the interest of worldwide companies leading the energy transition.

The Impact:

S&P Global Energy Power and Renewables research team is expanding its analytics offerings with advanced market simulations and stochastic modelling capabilities to help clients make timely, data-driven decisions on short- and long-term investment opportunities.

What’s in it for you:

This role will be instrumental in advancing our APAC power and renewable quantitative analysis and modelling capabilities, working closely with research and consulting teams in the region and globally to set up and fine tune power market models for timely investment decisions and trading strategies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the establishment of new and iterations of existing power market simulation models using industry recognized tools.
  • Build and maintain processing scripts (i.e. Python) to automate data handling to connect with various in-house models.
  • Manage the gathering, cleaning, and organizing of large data sets from different sources and apply advanced data analysis to drive key insights in research.
  • Apply and adopt cutting edged data science and statistical methods to produce advanced power forecast outputs.
  • Support regional research analysts with quantitative analysis and report writing when needed.
  • Work with other research teams to practice, align data, agree on market findings and ensure consistency in client facing deliverables.
  • Share findings through reports, presentations, and client briefings, support consulting projects and bespoke studies when needed. Ensure reports for clients are accurate and delivered on time and answer any related client questions.
  • Work with commercial team to pursue new business opportunities to demonstrate power and renewables services and modelling capabilities.
What we are looking for
  • Proven expertise in power market modeling using leading platforms and tools, such as PLEXOS, AURORA, PyPSA, DigSILENT PowerFactory, EATP, PowerWorld Simulator, PSCAD, OpenDSS, or other industry grade models developed for power system dispatch simulation, price forecasting, scenario analysis, and trading analytics.
  • Advanced proficiency in data science, visualization, statistical analysis, and automation using Python, R, or similar coding languages.
  • Familiarity with machine learning approaches for forecasting and scenario analysis such as LSTM, XGBoost, VGNN, VMD, DDPG.Strong quantitative research skills, with the ability to synthesize complex data and translate findings into actionable insights.
  • Good understanding of power market fundamentals, grid dispatch and power trading principals, policy impacts, and industry trends.
  • Collaborative mindset and experience working in cross-functional teams.
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present complex concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, Economics, Business Analytics or a related field.
