Principal Network Engineer – US-Based Company in Malaysia

Location: Johor Bahru (Must be able to reside in Malaysia)(As base in Malaysia Welcome Malaysian)
Salary Range: RM 9,000 – 15,000 Employment Type: Full-Time

About the Role

We are looking for an expert-level Principal / Senior Network Security Engineer to lead the design, deployment, and governance of secure network infrastructures within a global enterprise environment. This role plays a key part in building resilient architectures, enhancing cybersecurity defenses, and reducing risks across hybrid and cloud-connected environments.

You will work directly with the Director of Infrastructure Architecture & Engineering (based overseas) and collaborate closely with international teams across infrastructure, cloud security, and SOC operations. The ideal candidate is a highly independent specialist with deep technical expertise, strong analytical thinking, and the ability to drive enterprise‑grade network security initiatives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Architect, deploy, and maintain robust network security systems including firewalls, VPNs, IDS/IPS, WAF, and NAC technologies.
  • Configure and manage Next-Generation Firewalls (NGFW), with hands‑on proficiency in Palo Alto Networks required.
  • Implement Zero Trust Architecture concepts, including refined segmentation and micro‑segmentation strategies.
  • Manage and optimize protections such as DDoS mitigation, DNS security, and web filtering.
  • Secure cloud network connectivity (AWS VPCs, Direct Connect, Transit Gateway) in alignment with security and compliance standards.
  • Monitor and interpret network traffic using SIEM, SOAR, and threat‑intel platforms to identify suspicious activities.
  • Lead incident response for network‑related threats, conducting forensic analysis and identifying root causes.
  • Partner with SOC teams to improve threat visibility and enhance advanced threat hunting capabilities.
  • Perform vulnerability assessments, penetration testing, and scheduled firewall rule reviews.
  • Ensure compliance with frameworks such as NIST, PCI DSS, and ISO 27001.
  • Support audits, risk assessments, and remediation plans for network security controls.
  • Develop automation solutions using Python, Ansible, or similar tools to streamline security operations and change processes.
  • Evaluate emerging AI/ML‑driven threat detection technologies for improved response efficiency.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Information Technology, or equivalent experience.
  • At least 10 years of experience in network security engineering or enterprise network architecture within large‑scale, global environments.
  • Strong background in secure network design, intrusion detection/prevention, and firewall administration.
  • Hands‑on experience with Cisco networking and Palo Alto security platforms.
  • Skilled in SIEM tools, packet analysis, and network forensics.
  • Practical experience with cloud networking and cloud security (AWS preferred).
  • Working knowledge of encryption technologies, PKI, secure remote access, and incident response frameworks (MITRE ATT&CK, NIST CSF, SANS IR).
  • Exceptional analytical, troubleshooting, and problem‑resolution capabilities.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively with global and cross‑functional teams.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with NAC platforms such as Aruba ClearPass.
  • Professional certifications (any of the following):
    • CISSP – Certified Information Systems Security Professional
    • CCNP Security – Cisco Certified Network Professional (Security)
    • GIAC – GSEC / GCIA / GCIH
    • PCNSE – Palo Alto Networks Certified Security Engineer
