Job summary

A leading engineering consultancy in Singapore is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to lead the mechanical design team. The role involves supervising design deliverables, managing project timelines, and ensuring compliance with safety standards. Ideal candidates will have a degree in Mechanical Engineering and 8+ years of relevant experience, particularly in the water and wastewater sectors. Strong CAD and BIM skills are essential.

Job description
Responsibilities
  • The candidate shall supervise and review the design of the Mechanical team by checking specifications, schedules, datasheets, drawings, and 3D models to ensure quality, safety, and technical standards are adhered to.
  • The candidate shall produce and review all design deliverables, including design specifications, schedules, drawings, and calculations, and have a comprehensive knowledge of CAD and BIM design.
  • The candidate shall review clients' or third-party designs and information to determine suitability and liaise with those concerned to obtain further information if necessary.
  • The candidate shall have experience gained by delivering projects across the complete project lifecycle, from front-end engineering design (FEED) through detailed design, technical assurance, testing and commissioning, and final handover.
  • The candidate shall challenge client asset standards where a clear opportunity exists to use an alternative, cost-effective process or product without reducing the overall outcome.
  • The candidate shall carry out tender bid analysis for various items of plant.
  • The candidate shall complete deliverables on time and to budget and, where necessary, manage the deliverables of others to ensure deliverables dates and budgets are maintained.
  • The candidate shall manage/monitor the work of others in the organisation or project team as necessary, including checking and/or reviewing their work.
  • The candidate shall prepare fee estimates, design programme and liaison with clients to agree project deliverables.
  • The candidate shall carry out quality control review of design calculations, General Arrangement Drawings, 3D models and Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams, TOTEX and CAPEX
  • Preparing technical mechanical specification sections.
  • The candidate shall carry out subcontractor or third-party design reviews until these are accepted.
  • The candidate shall ensure that standard practices are utilised wherever possible.
  • The candidate shall ensure provide services which focus on customer satisfaction.
  • The candidate shall ensure that the design fully considers all health and safety requirements, including, but not limited to, CDM 2015 regulations.
  • The candidate shall ensure that the design takes full regard for all health and safety requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • The candidate shall have about 8 years of experience in mechanical design works, preferably with contractor experience in water and wastewater industry
  • Experience in water and/or wastewater treatment processes and relevant mechanical design criteria will be advantageous, by reviewing pump calculations, hydraulic calculations, P&IDs, Process Flow Diagrams and technical specifications
  • General experience in other discipline criteria associated with water and/or wastewater treatment, including civil, process, EICA and project management, will be an advantage.
  • General understanding of client regulatory environments.
  • Budget management experience will be an advantage.
  • Ability to rationalize designs and produce economic plant layouts.
