Job summary

The Singapore-ETH Centre is inviting applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher to co-lead the development of OCCL, an open-source accelerator communication library, for distributed AI workloads.

You will design communication primitives, optimise patterns for ML training, and ensure portability across hardware, collaborating with partners in Singapore and Zurich. Strong C/C++, MPI/NCCL, and English proficiency are essential.

Qualifications

• PhD in Computer Science or related field.
• Strong background in parallel computing, compilers, performance optimisation and HPC.
• Excellent knowledge of C and C++.
• Familiar with MPI and NCCL design principles.
• Experience with UCX, NVLINK, InfiniBand or UltraEthernet.
• Publications in distributed ML or HPC systems desirable.
• Experience managing large software projects.
• Ability to work independently and communicate with remote colleagues.
• Proficient in written and spoken English.

Responsibilities

• Co-lead the design and development of OCCL for distributed AI workloads.
• Implement communication primitives optimised for ML training and inference.
• Investigate and optimise communication patterns for large-scale DL workloads.
• Ensure portability across hardware and network substrates (UCX/NVLINK/InfiniBand/UltraEthernet).
• Evaluate performance on GPU clusters and large-scale systems.
• Collaborate with researchers in Singapore and Zurich to integrate OCCL.
• Publish key scientific outputs and contribute to MSc/BSc supervision.
