Job Description

The Centre on Asia and Globalisation (CAG), at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, National University of Singapore, invites applications for a fellowship in the field of International Relations, with a focus on Southeast Asia. The fellowship is tenable for two years.

The Lee Kuan Yew School is a leading school of public policy with an international faculty and student body. CAG was established in 2006 to provide accurate, independent, and high-quality analysis on issues of regional and global significance for academia, decision-makers, commentators, and the general public. Its current research agenda focuses on the prospects of regional and global order; the future of economic globalisation/de-globalisation and their impact on Asia; the alignment postures of Southeast Asia in an era of superpower competition; and the impact of technology and artificial intelligence on international politics (https://lkyspp.nus.edu.sg/cag).

The candidate will have three main responsibilities: (1) conduct independent, rigorous, and publishable peer-reviewed research on issues that advance the understanding of regional perspectives on global challenges; (2) assist in the organization, running, and intellectual contribution of the School’s inaugural Sentosa Forum led by CAG, including but not limited to, liaising with the participants, distilling the key findings, and directing the work of the research assistants; (3) contribute to the broader intellectual life of the LKYSPP.

Qualifications
  • A Ph.D. degree in Political Science/International Relations/History, focusing on the international relations of Southeast Asia, and/or the foreign policy of one or more the countries in the region. Candidates whose work involves comparing the foreign policy responses of the ASEAN countries to global and regional power shifts are especially encouraged to apply.
  • The Ph.D. degree should be in hand or formally approved before the start date.
  • An ability to engage with the research and policy communities in Singapore, Asia, and the world.
