Job description

About Us:

Vortexa was founded to solve the immense information gap that exists in the energy industry. By using massive amounts of new satellite data and pioneering work in artificial intelligence, Vortexa creates an unprecedented view of seaborne global energy flows in real-time, bringing transparency and efficiency to the energy markets and helping society as a whole.

The Role:

Vortexa combines deep domain expertise in the energy and shipping industries with advanced AI technology to provide users with actionable information and insights in real time.

As we continue our rapid growth, we are recruiting an oil market analyst, ideally with experience across the barrel (crude and petroleum products), as well as freight markets, and based in Singapore to join our Market Intelligence team. You will play a leading role in our data and market analytics, with a focus on the Asia Pacific region, but firmly part of a talented global team.

In this role, you will combine your deep market knowledge and analytical skills with our vast data resources and intuitive analytics platform to extract meaning, distill new trends ahead of others, and therefore provide unique market understanding to our users. Specific aspects of your analysis may include the analysis of trade flows, the relation to supply, demand and inventory changes, the pricing realm (oil prices and structure, arbitrage differentials, refining margins, freight costs), and the repercussions of shipping industry developments and fundamentals.

You will also work in close collaboration with market and data analyst colleagues in London, Dubai and Houston to build a complete view of the global oil and gas markets and identify the key implications and leading indicators of our data for our commodities and shipping clients.

Working to fulfill client requests on deadline in a fast-paced environment, you will provide customers with analytical support via weekly conference calls, presentations and succinct write-ups.

In addition, you will attend relevant industry events and take pride in building and maintaining a strong network of professional relationships. We are regularly featured in major publications, newswires and industry press, and this exciting opportunity also allows you to offer your thought-leading views on global market trends, to our clients and the media on a regular basis.

You have:

  • Proven expertise analysing crude oil and/or refined products markets in a regional and/or global context (minimum 2 years of relevant experience)
  • Solid understanding of supply/demand/macro market fundamentals, pricing structures as well as physical and financial trading strategies
  • Excellent quantitative and analytical skills and advanced Excel proficiency
  • Ability to articulate compelling, thought-leading market views both in writing and via presentation
  • A results-oriented attitude, ability to manage and deliver multiple tasks with limited supervision
  • Experience producing regular content independently, speaking externally at conferences and to the media

Great if you have:

  • Experience using advanced excel, SQL, Python or other data processing, analysis and illustration software skills
  • Niche market knowledge in specific product or regional markets
  • Experience in a leadership and/or mentorship capacity
  • Stock-options in a fast-growing, high-potential business
  • An open, collaborative, and supportive working culture built on merit, which celebrates creative thinking and “getting things done.”
  • The opportunity to work with AI-driven technology in a scale-up environment with commodity trading experts
  • Private Health Insurance offered via AXA
  • A flexible working policy- accommodating both remote & home working, with regular staff events
  • Global Volunteering Policy to help you ‘do good’ and feel better
