Job description

The Nurse Educator assesses, identifies, implements, co-ordinates and evaluates departmental nursing staffs’ and external parties in continuing education, training and development plans to ensure provision of competent and quality patient care but not be limited to the following:-

Responsibilities
  • Conducts nursing staff orientation and induction, clinical education / training, in-service education, personal and professional growth.
  • Serves as resource person in education/nursing training matters and clinical issues to provide high quality standard of care.
  • Plans and provides direct clinical supervision for junior staff and care givers.
  • Facilitates the clinical learning environment of nurses and caregivers to improve nursing their learning experiences.
  • Responsible to maintain and perform the following core competencies competently: Clinical teaching / supervision - Structured teaching - Assessment of trainees and nurses’ clinical performance [formative & summative].
  • Reviews and revises existing curriculum following constructive recommendation on training/practice issues in order to meet the current educational needs of the hospital.
  • Participates in the implementation and development of e-learning resources.
  • Works collaboratively with ward Nursing Clinicians and Nurse Managers to maintain clinical standard; conduct total performance management (includes career coaching and staff development) and assume joint managerial responsibilities, eHOR etc
  • Participates in educational audit/quality improvement projects/risk management.
  • Takes on additional responsibilities or tasks as assigned by the Deputy/Assistant Director (Nursing) and/or Management.
Qualifications/Requirements
  • SNB Registered Nurse with at least 8 years of post-registration clinical experience, of which a minimum of two (2) years of experience in clinical teaching/professional development and continuing education at an acute hospital setting.
  • Diploma in Nursing with relevant post-basic or advanced certification and Degree in Nursing from recognized training institution as approved by Singapore Nursing Board.
  • Professional Educational Certificate (PGHDE by NUS or ACTA/ALPS).
  • Possess Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) provider certificate.
  • Able to perform rotating shift duties up to 12 hours (average 44 hours per work week) inclusive of Saturdays, Sundays and Public Holidays AND office hour (average 44 hours per work week).
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Preferred to have experienced in designing simple webpage and in using graphic design software (such as Canva) in preparation of interactive materials for training purposes.
