About the Position

The School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) at the National Technical University (NTU) Singapore offers the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) Programme by Research on full time or part time basis.

Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) Programme by Research curriculum:

• Pursue research work under the supervision of an appointed staff member of the school and submit a thesis based on the research work done for examination.
• Passing examinations in 6 courses (equivalent to 18 AUs)
• Attend and pass any other additional courses required by the School/University
• Qualifying Examination exercise
• Passing an oral examination relating to thesis

Programme Structure and Duration

Full-time: 2 years to 5 years

General Requirements

We encourage graduates with strong academic potential and passion for research to apply for NTU’s postgraduate research programmes. To support a comprehensive, evidence-based assessment, applicants shall provide evidence of strong academic foundations, including technical and English proficiency, relevant research experience, motivation to pursue graduate studies, and their personal character by submitting the following:

• Bachelor’s Degree: A strong Bachelor’s degree with minimum Honours (Distinction) and its equivalent.
• English Proficiency: A good TOEFL/IELTS1 score for applicants whose Bachelor’s degree is not conducted in English.
• Research Proposal: A well-crafted research proposal that demonstrates the applicant’s research potential and motivation.
• Resume: A resume that highlights personal and academic achievements, prior research experience and skills, leadership and character.
• Academic References: Academic referee reports that provide insights into the applicant’s potential and character.

Application Procedure

There are two intakes each year - August or January. Applicants are advised to submit their application before the last day of submission for the desired intake.

Application Period:

• August 2026 intake: 3rd November 2025 to 31 January 2026
• January 2025 intake: 1st June 2026 to 31 July 2026
