Role Overview
You will be responsible for monitoring and maintaining the connectivity infrastructure of our interconnect network to ensure minimal downtime and no adverse impact to customer services. This includes troubleshooting network incidents and responding to customer-reported issues in accordance with agreed SLAs. When necessary, you will coordinate with internal and external providers to resolve network or customer service issues.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor the network infrastructure and manage incidents: diagnosis, escalation, and resolution within defined SLA/OLA/KPI parameters.
- Record and update incident status and progress in the ticketing system, ensuring accurate and timely information until resolution.
- Liaise with external suppliers, internal service teams and network operations to minimise network disruption and downtime.
- Keep updated with emerging network technologies and developments within the Network Operations Centre (NOC).
- Troubleshoot LAN/WAN issues, including physical layer cabling faults in a colocation/data centre environment.
- Monitor and support optical transport, IP/MPLS networks (including vendor-specific platforms), and connectivity services into cloud environments (e.g., ExpressRoute, DirectConnect).
- Utilise network monitoring tools, trouble-ticket systems, and where required, participate in automation or scripting initiatives to improve efficiency.
- Work collaboratively with other functions (e.g., operations, cloud, security) to ensure holistic service availability and reliability across the network.
- Provide written and verbal updates to stakeholders on incident status, resolutions and performance metrics.
What You’ll Need
- A degree in Telecommunications, Information Technology, Computer Science or a closely related discipline, or equivalent experience.
- Professional certifications such as CCNA, JNCIA, Optical Associate/Foundation (or equivalent) are advantageous.
- Proven experience in a network operations or managed-services environment (telecoms, ISP, cloud provider or data centre).
- Familiarity working in colocation/data centre environments is highly desirable.
- Hands-on experience using network monitoring tools and ticket-management systems.
- Strong understanding of TCP/IP and fundamentals of routing and switching.
- Proficiency in LAN and WAN troubleshooting, including cabling, equipment and facility issues.
- Working knowledge of IP/MPLS networks (experience with vendor platforms such as Juniper MX series is a plus).
- Experience with optical transport networks (e.g., Ciena, Waveserver) is a strong advantage.
- Understanding of cloud-connectivity services (Azure ExpressRoute, AWS Direct Connect, GCP Interconnect) is beneficial.
- Scripting experience in Python or automation tools like Ansible is a plus.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and strong attention to detail.
