Google is proud to boast a network that provides service to millions of Internet users around the world. The Network Engineering team is responsible for operating that network reliably and at scale. As a member of the team, you have a direct impact on design and feature enhancements to keep our systems running smoothly. You also ensure that network operations are safe and efficient by monitoring network performance, coordinating planned maintenance, adjusting hardware components and responding to network connectivity issues. Google's complex network generates a constant stream of challenges which require you to continually be innovative with an evolving set of technologies. Keeping the network reliable ensures that our users stay connected with our suite of applications, products and services.

In this role, you will work with global core network engineering and software engineering teams to build software solutions and introduce technology to improve the Google network reliability and operational cost.

Job responsibilities
  • Lead the development and execution of network deployment strategies, from initial planning to final delivery.
  • Drive technical direction and roadmaps, while also collaborating with cross-functional teams to lead projects.
  • Design and build automation and tooling to improve the speed and reliability of network deployments.
  • Advocate and implement best practices in software development, focusing on enhancing quality and performance.
  • Provide ongoing support for automation systems and build upon existing infrastructure to create a comprehensive deployment automation stack.
Minimum qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 3 years of experience with one or more optical technologies such as client transceivers, optical metro, long-haul Dense Wave-Division Multiplexing (DWDM) systems, or submarine systems.
  • Experience in programming languages such as C++, Go, or Python.
Preferred qualifications
  • Experience in building and maintaining software services, tools, and automation frameworks for analyzing and troubleshooting Internet Protocol (IP) and optical networks.
  • Knowledge of IP or optical network technologies (e.g., routing protocols, IP addressing, DWDM, Optical Transport Network (OTN), etc.).
  • Ability to write SQL scripts, query data structures, and extract network and diagnostic information.
  • Ability to analyze business processes and provide data-motivated recommendations for optimization.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate with others through data-motivated insights.
