Job Summary
A Money Changer / Remittance Teller provides front-line customer service by conducting foreign currency exchange and cross-border remittance transactions accurately and securely. You will ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and deliver professional service to customers.
Responsibilities
- Conduct foreign currency buying and selling at the counter using real-time exchange rates to complete transactions accurately
- Count and verify cash in multiple currencies and identify counterfeit notes to prevent losses
- Advise customers clearly on exchange rates, fees, and available services to support informed decisions
- Maintain and reconcile cash float and currency stock to ensure accurate cash management
- Process inward and outward remittances by entering beneficiary details, bank codes, amounts, and fees into the remittance system
- Educate customers on remittance options, fees, transfer speed, and documentation requirements to facilitate smooth transactions
- Issue receipts and transaction references for customer tracking and record-keeping
- Perform Customer Due Diligence (CDD) and Know-Your-Customer (KYC) checks using valid identity documents to comply with regulatory standards
- Monitor transactions for compliance with MAS AML/CFT rules and report suspicious activities promptly
- Maintain accurate records and documentation for audits and regulatory reviews
- Follow internal Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and risk controls to minimize operational risks
- Greet and assist customers professionally, handling queries and complaints to maintain high service standards
- Balance and reconcile cash and currency positions at the start and end of each shift to ensure accuracy
- Keep the counter area clean, organized, and secure to provide a safe working environment
- Promote company services and build positive relationships with customers to encourage repeat business
Preferred competencies and qualifications
- Prior experience handling cash, cashiering, or teller duties in money changing, remittance, banking, or retail finance environments
- Diploma or degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or related fields
- Strong numeracy skills to handle and reconcile cash accurately
- Customer service skills demonstrating friendliness, patience, and professionalism with diverse customers
- Good communication skills in English to explain services and procedures clearly
