The Microbiologist plays an important role in ensuring the microbiological quality and food safety of raw materials, in-process materials and finished goods. You will be responsible for conducting microbial analyses, interpreting test results, supporting product release decisions and ensuring compliance with ISO 17025, SOP and quality requirements. Additionally, this position will work closely with QC and cross functional teams to support non-conformance management, food safety complaint investigations, CAPA reporting and follow-up actions through closure.

The Position:
  • Conduct routine and non-routine microbial analyses of raw materials, in-process materials and finished goods as required
  • Interpret test results and compare them against established specifications and control limits
  • Conduct risk analysis to ensure the accuracy and reliability of test results and take appropriate actions where required.
  • Be responsible for the release of microbial test results
  • Support method development, optimisation and validation activities
  • Perform statistical trend analysis, data interpretation and result reviews to identify potential quality and food safety risks, support investigations and drive continuous improvement initiatives
  • Maintain ISO 17025 documentation and ensure records are accurate and up-to-date
  • Ensure proper documentation, record retention and traceability of laboratory activities
  • Support the technical management and compliance requirements of ISO 17025
  • Assist in internal audits, external assessments and accreditation activities
  • Support QC in ensuring non-conformances for raw materials and finished goods are raised in a timely manner and followed up through closure
  • Assist in investigations relating to food safety complaints
  • Prepare CAPA reports and support follow-up actions where required
  • Assist with other tasks as assigned.
The Ideal Candidate:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Microbiology or related discipline with at least 3 to 5 years of relevant working experience.
  • Experience in F&F laboratory or microbiology laboratory environment would be an added advantage
  • Strong knowledge of microbiology principles including method development, optimisation and validation
  • Hands-on experience with microbiological testing methods, laboratory equipment operation and basic troubleshooting
  • Basic knowledge of chemistry and chemical properties would be advantageous
  • Good understanding of production processes, quality deviations and related investigation requirements.
  • Familiarity with country and regional regulatory requirements relating to quality, food safety and microbiology would be advantageous
  • Good knowledge of laboratory safety standards and Good Laboratory Practice (GLP)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and SAP
  • Experience in preparing technical reports, investigation summaries or quality-related documentation
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
