Job summary

  • Participate in quality assurance and maintenance programs.
  • Support flexible staffing and participate in shift duties.

Job description
Job Responsibilities
  • 1. Clinical Chemistry section - responsible to perform a variety of clinical chemistry testprocedures according to the standards set in the Laboratory with directsupervision by a senior staff for a start until medical technologist isconfident and independent:
    • a. Running & verification of quality controls for all laboratory tests under ClinicalChemistry before commencement of patients testing.
    • b. Routine sample processing such as spinning and aliquoting of patients’ samples.
    • c. Routine qualitative and quantitative chemical analyses on blood, CSF (cerebrospinalfluid), urine, stool and other body fluids.
    • d. Routine immunology and serology procedures.
    • e. Routine urinalysis chemistry & microscopy procedures.
  • 2. Administrative section - responsible to perform registration of patient samples, handling telephone inquiries by clients and printing, emailing and faxing of patient results withminimal supervision by a Client Service Supervisor.
  • 3. Follows Laboratory policy for registration, billing, identification, processing,reporting, result retrieval and record/specimen keeping.
  • 4. Complies and maintains all applicable safety regulations in the Laboratory.
  • 5. Maintains proper inventory levels of all Clinical Laboratory consumables and reagents and inform senior staff if supply is low.
  • 6. Checks the performance of all instruments and equipment in the Laboratory and to report any equipment which is not functioning properly.
  • 7. Complies with all regulatory guidelines, participating in CAP proficiency testing programs and in hospital quality assurance programs.
  • 8. Participates in a routine maintenance program for instruments and in on-going continuing education and professional development programs.
  • 9. Supports flexible staffing requirements in the department and participates in shift duties.
  • 10. Performs primary weekly QC review of all QC results in the section assigned to maintainand troubleshoots QC data if there are any biases. Submits Monthly QC Summary.
  • 11. Performs 6-monthly or annual validation of minor equipment such as thermometer, pipette, timer or temperature monitoring system.
  • 12. Performs the required validation protocol for new test set-up as assigned by the sectionmanager or senior MT and submits the report for approval to the LaboratoryOperations Manager.
  • 13. Performs goods receipt, and goods issue in the RMS application.
  • 14. Review the inventory stock report and maintains an adequate laboratory stock inventory level. Participates and performs any inter-laboratory quality assurance (IQA), external quality assurance (EQA) and proficiency testing programs that the laboratory is subscribed to.
  • 15. Assist in training and supervising of new personnel
  • 16. Any other duties as assigned from time to time by clinical supervisor
