A healthcare provider in Singapore is seeking a Medical Laboratory Technologist to analyze specimens for diagnosis and treatment. The role involves testing patient samples, maintaining laboratory equipment, and providing training to junior staff. Candidates should hold a Bachelor's degree in biomedical science, with at least two years of experience in a clinical laboratory. This position may require shift work and long hours standing.
JOB PURPOSE
The Medical Laboratory Technologist role involves analysis of specimens from patients for the purposes of diagnosis, prevention, prognosis, and treatment of disease. The specimens include blood, urine, other body fluids, and tissue. The Medical Laboratory Technologist supports Junior Medical Laboratory Technologists, Senior Medical Laboratory Scientists, and pathologists in the total test process (pre-analytical, analytical and post-analytical).
MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Specific
i. Perform, verify and validate testing of specimens from patients.
ii. Perform calibration, validation, and preventive maintenance on laboratory analysers and other laboratory equipment.
iii. Perform and certify quality control of laboratory analysers, including point-of-care testing devices (where applicable). Perform testing of specimens from quality assurance programme surveys.
iv. Maintain inventory according to lean management practices.
v. Obtain information from medical history (including previous laboratory investigations) relevant to interpretation of current test results.
vi. Ensure that processing of specimens is performed in compliance with protocols, accreditation standards and regulatory requirements.
vii. Provide training, competency assessment, and supervision of junior medical technologists, medical technologists, and phlebotomists (where applicable).
viii. Assessing patient needs, reviewing patient history, and determining the reason(s) for drawing blood.
ix. Preparing specimens for transportation, including labelling of sample tubes vials accurately.
x. Coordinate initial orientation, training and competency testing for all new phlebotomy staff.
xi. Perform specimen reception, order entry and other duties in laboratory, as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS
Education, training and experience
i. Bachelor’s degree in biomedical science or equivalent
ii. Diploma with relevant experience and competency
iii. Minimum of two years of working in a clinical laboratory
iv. ASCPi certificate is preferred
