Job Description

We're looking for a passionate communicator with a flair for science storytelling to join our Communications team at Duke-NUS Medical School. This role focuses primarily on science communications—helping to translate complex research and medical innovations into clear, compelling stories that inspire action and build reputation.

If you're someone who loves learning about new discoveries, enjoys writing about science and health, and brings a positive, can-do attitude to every project, we'd love to meet you.

Key responsibilities
Science Communication and Media Relations
  • Develop, pitch and place stories, commentaries, and profiles that highlight Duke-NUS' scientific breakthroughs, research translation/commercialisation, and educational innovations.
  • Work closely with researchers, clinicians, and partners to identify stories that demonstrate the impact of Duke-NUS' work in transforming medicine and improving lives.
  • Coordinate media interviews, press briefings, and media events; maintain and update local, regional and international media lists.
  • Developing and writing press releases and pitches in engaging the media for positive coverage.
  • Monitor and report media coverage, supporting data-driven strategies.
Content generation
  • Write and edit stories for Duke-NUS-owned channels, including MEDICUS, the Duke-NUS website, newsletters, and social media platforms.
  • Partner with faculty, students and alumni to craft human stories that celebrate discovery, education, community and impact.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to produce engaging multimedia content (e.g., animations, infographics, illustrations, videos, and podcasts).
Team & Department Support
  • Provide copyediting and proofreading support to ensure consistent tone, accuracy, and adherence to house-style.
  • Contribute to school-wide events, campaigns, and special projects as assigned.
  • Pitch in where needed. We're a small team that values flexibility, teamwork and mutual respect.
Qualifications
  • A degree in communications, journalism, life sciences, or a related discipline.
  • At least two years of relevant experience in journalism, public relations, or corporate communications.
  • Strong interest (or background) in science, health or medical education.
  • Excellent command of English, with strong storytelling and editing skills.
  • A curious, creative mindset with the ability to simplify complex ideas for diverse audiences.
  • A collaborative and positive attitude: someone who enjoys working in a fast-paced, collegial environment with a no-blame culture.
  • Good project, stakeholder and time management, organisational and coordination skills.
  • Bonus points for: familiarity with data visualisation, multimedia content, or AI-tools for communications.
