Job Overview

As the Mechanical Superintendent, you will play a pivotal role in leading and managing all aspects of plant maintenance to ensure optimal efficiency, reliability, and safety.

Responsibilities
  1. Health, Safety and Compliance
    • Ensure strict compliance with all health, safety, and environmental regulations.
    • Conduct daily toolbox meetings to reinforce safety protocols and address immediate concerns.
    • Review work permits submitted by contractors, ensuring all safety requirements are met before approval.
    • Perform risk assessment reviews with contract workers to maintain relevance and compliance.
    • Liaise with professional engineers and service providers for statutory equipment inspections and testing.
    • Promote a culture of safety and continuous improvement within the team.
  2. Maintenance Planning and Execution
    • Develop and manage breakdown, preventive, and shutdown maintenance plans, including detailed work schedules and budgets.
    • Oversee all maintenance activities, ensuring troubleshooting and repairs are completed safely, efficiently, and on time.
    • Coordinate daily maintenance operations with the Production section to minimize disruptions.
    • Assign daily mechanical jobs, ensuring adherence to project procedures, schedules, and safety protocols.
  3. Operational Oversight and Cost Management
    • Inspect the site regularly to identify issues and determine necessary maintenance actions.
    • Review maintenance costs and drive initiatives to improve cost efficiency.
    • Maintain adequate spare parts and equipment inventory, ensuring proper storage and availability for operational needs.
    • Track and analyze maintenance activities, equipment history, and repair costs to identify improvement opportunities and forecast future needs.
  4. Team Leadership and Development
    • Lead and manage the performance and development of the mechanical team, including technicians and subcontractors.
    • Provide guidance and mentorship to team members, fostering continuous improvement and professional growth.
    • Encourage innovation and solution development to address complex maintenance challenges and drive operational excellence.
Requirements
  1. Educational Qualifications
    • Minimum Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline. Higher qualifications (e.g., Bachelor’s degree) are advantageous.
  2. Professional Experience
    • At least 8 years of direct, hands‑on experience in maintenance within a chemical plant or similar industrial environment.
    • Minimum 5 years in a supervisory or team leadership role, overseeing maintenance teams and operations in a chemical plant setting.
    • Proven expertise in troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining a wide range of chemical plant equipment (e.g., pumps, compressors, reactors, heat exchangers).
    • Strong understanding of maintenance technologies, reliability engineering principles, and best practices for asset management.
    • Familiarity with mechanical equipment and manufacturing processes specific to the chemical industry, including safety and regulatory standards.
  3. Systems and Process Knowledge
    • Demonstrated experience in maintenance planning and scheduling using SAP or other Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
    • Ability to analyze maintenance data, generate reports, and optimize preventive and corrective maintenance strategies.
  4. Leadership and Interpersonal Skills
    • Excellent teamwork and communication skills, with a track record of fostering collaboration and positive working relationships.
    • Strong leadership qualities, including the ability to motivate, mentor, and develop team members.
