Job summary

Binnies in Singapore seeks a senior mechanical design specialist to lead and deliver complex process systems for water and wastewater plants, applying advanced design methods.

You will coordinate with civil, electrical and control teams, review vendor submissions, support bids, construction, and commissioning, and mentor junior engineers. A PE registration and 10–15 years of municipal/industrial wastewater experience are preferred.

Qualifications

• PE registration with PEB Singapore preferred.
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• 10–15 years' experience in mechanical design for municipal/industrial wastewater plants.
• Ability to lead a team and deliver design deliverables on schedule.
• Strong communication and QA/QC experience.

Responsibilities

• Concept, Functional, Preliminary and detailed design of mechanical process systems for water and wastewater treatment plants.
• Design of pumping and ancillary systems.
• Prepare GA drawings and equipment layouts.
• Prepare specifications for mechanical equipment and pumps.
• Perform equipment sizing and calculations.
• Review vendor submissions and coordinate with civil, electrical, and other disciplines.
• Lead meetings with clients, contractors, and vendors.
• Provide engineering support during bids, construction, testing and commissioning.
• Contribute to project cost estimates and design management.

Job description

Functions as a senior technical specialist or in a lead role in mechanical design. Works independently and applies advanced engineering techniques and analyses for problems and methods.

Responsibilities

• Concept, Functional, Preliminary and detailed design of mechanical process systems for water and wastewater treatment plants, including screening equipment, physical-chemical treatment plants, biological treatment plants, blower equipment, odour control plants, disinfection plants and sludge treatment plants
• Concept, Functional, Preliminary and detailed design of various pumping systems for water, wastewater and sludge treatment plants
• Concept, Functional, Preliminary and detailed design of ancillary systems including chemical feed systems, mechanical ventilation systems, and drainage systems
• Preparation of General Arrangement and equipment layout drawings
• Preparation of mechanical process equipment and pump specifications
• Mechanical equipment and pipe sizing and calculations
• Review and evaluation of vendor submissions
• Coordination with other disciplines e.g. civil, structural, electrical, building services, and instrumentation & control designers
• Lead meetings, discussions with clients, contractors and vendors
• Provide engineering support for bids & proposals
• Provide engineering support during construction
• Provide engineering support during testing and commissioning
• Provides project cost estimates to client
• Design management and project management of proposals and projects where the scope is primarily mechanical / process

Preferred Qualifications

• A Professional Engineer (PE) registered with Professional Engineers Board Singapore is preferred
• Possess a university engineering degree (mechanical)
• Candidate shall have minimum of 10-15 years’ experience in the mechanical design of wastewater treatment (municipal and industrial)
• Able to work independently in producing the project deliverables to meet project timeline
• Leads and guide a team of engineers and carries out QA/QC work on their designs
• Proficient in written and oral communication with good interpersonal skills
