Job description

The Material Planner is responsible for reviewing and managing MRP (Material Requirements Planning) to ensure timely release of Purchase Requisitions (PR) and prevent material shortages that could disrupt production. This role works closely with the Procurement team to ensure smooth material flow, while monitoring material usage, BOM accuracy, and inventory accuracy across assembly and test & end of line operations.

Key Responsibilities
MRP Review & Management
  • Run and review MRP on a regular basis (daily/weekly) to identify material requirements based on production schedules and customer forecasts.
  • Analyze MRP exception messages (shortages, excess, past-due) and take corrective action.
  • Ensure system parameters (lead time, safety stock, lot size, MOQ) are accurate and maintained for reliable MRP output.
BOM Accuracy
  • Review and verify Bill of Materials (BOM) for accuracy and completeness to ensure correct MRP generation.
  • Work with Engineering to update BOMs promptly for ECNs, new product introductions, or material substitutions.
  • Perform periodic BOM audits/checks against actual production usage to identify and correct discrepancies.
PR Release & Timeliness
  • Review MRP-generated requirements and release Purchase Requisitions (PR) on time to meet production build schedules.
  • Track PR-to-PO conversion status with Procurement to ensure no delays in the ordering cycle.
  • Prioritize PR releases based on production urgency, line criticality, and material lead time.
Material Shortage Prevention
  • Proactively monitor material availability against production schedule to identify potential shortages before they impact the line.
  • Work closely with Procurement to expedite critical/at-risk materials and resolve delivery delays.
  • Escalate shortage risks early to Production Planning, Procurement, and Management with clear action plans.
Material Usage & Inventory Monitoring
  • Track actual material usage/consumption vs. planned usage and investigate significant variances.
  • Monitor inventory levels (raw material, WIP) to ensure alignment with MRP.
  • Work with Industrial Engineering (IE) and Production to ensure actual material usage and wastage/scrap rates are accurately captured and updated in the system for reliable MRP runs.
Cross-functional Coordination
  • Act as the key interface between Production Planning, Procurement, and Warehouse to ensure material readiness ahead of build schedules.
  • Coordinate with Engineering/Quality on material holds, substitutions, or ECN impacts affecting MRP.
  • Support NPI (New Product Introduction) by ensuring new material requirements are captured accurately in MRP.
  • Prepare and send a weekly shortages report to Production Planning, Procurement, and Management, highlighting at-risk materials and recovery actions.
  • Maintain and report key metrics: PR on-time release rate, shortage incidents, BOM accuracy rate, inventory accuracy, forecast/MRP accuracy.
  • Identify root causes of recurring shortages, BOM errors, or PR delays and drive process improvements with Procurement, Engineering, and Planning teams.
  • Any other ad-hoc duties as assigned by Supervisor.
Job Requirements
  • Diploma/bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, Industrial Engineering, Logistics, or related field.
  • 2-5 years in material planning or MRP-related role, preferably in semiconductor, electronics manufacturing, or OSAT industry.
  • Strong understanding of MRP logic and BOM structure, with hands-on experience with ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, or similar)
  • Familiarity with semiconductor assembly & test process flow (wafer sort, die attach, wire bond, mold, test, tape & reel)
  • Exposure to Lean/Six Sigma or supply chain certifications (APICS/CPIM)
  • Strong Excel/data analysis skills for tracking material usage, BOM accuracy, and shortage trends
  • Good communication and coordination skills to work effectively with Procurement, Engineering, and cross-functional teams
