Job Description
We are looking for an R&D Project manager to join the fast-paced Agilent Mass Spectrometry R&D Team. As an R&D Project Manager in the Agilent Mass Spec Division, you will lead one or more project teams involved in the investigation, development, productizing, and support of existing and new Mass Spectrometry technologies, processes, and products. The ideal candidate will have experience with Mass Spectrometry design and/or manufacturing as well as team management and personnel development.
Responsibilities include:
- Partner with cross-functional leaders within Agilent including marketing, engineering, application development, manufacturing, quality, product support, and sales to achieve business objectives.
- Work closely with the Mass Spectrometry Marketing team to effectively meet new product introduction goals.
- Establishing and maintaining close coordination with other business units within Agilent.
- Participating as part of the Agilent Mass Spectrometry leadership team to handle the project and product portfolio, set direction, and promote a culture that supports calculated risk-taking, and interdisciplinary problem-solving and emphasizes changes that “make a difference” for the company and the industry.
- Lead, motivate and develop a cross-disciplinary team of 5-8 scientists and engineers. Coaching and developing team members to expand the team’s capabilities and professional satisfaction.
- Balancing a technology development focus with future market or business needs and manufacturing capabilities.
- Coordinating both near‑term and long‑term development programs.
Qualifications
- Bachelor Degree in Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, or equivalent with over 10 years of experience.
- Experience working in multidisciplinary teams, spanning physics, mechanical design, electronics, firmware development, manufacturing, and process development.
- Excellent people management and interpersonal skills. Ability to be a mentor and an advocate for the members of your team. A proven track record of setting measurable and achievable goals and managing to achieve them.
- Strong interpersonal skills. Be able to demonstrate the ability to set priorities based on alignment with business goals and strategic direction, define timelines and deliver to commitments.
- Demonstrated ability to make practical tradeoffs of resources, design, and testing to meet time‑critical objectives.
- Must exhibit critical thinking, teamwork, creativity, planning, and execution skills backed by strong analytical and decision making.
Desired:
- Prior experience leading a team of technical specialists (Ph.D., MS. and BS. level Engineers/Scientists) engaged in technology or product development.
- Experience with some type of analytical instrumentation development and in at least one aspect of mass spectrometer system design.
- Involvement in at least one project that led to a successful commercial product introduction, preferably in a leadership role.
- Good verbal, written, and presentation communication skills.
