Job summary

Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement seeks a Marine Superintendent to ensure safe, compliant vessel operations and to serve as the vital link between ship and shore. You will guide Masters, manage audits, and drive continuous improvement to uphold international standards and client satisfaction.

The role requires strong maritime qualifications, including LNG/LPG/Ammonia cargo experience, and a proven track record in shore-side vessel management. On-site work in Singapore is expected.

Qualifications

• M.Sc. or B.Sc. in Maritime Studies, Nautical Science, or equivalent.
• Master Mariner or Chief Officer qualification.
• Minimum 3 years sailing as Master/Senior Officer, or 6 years as Marine Superintendent.

Responsibilities

• Monitor safety, security, and voyage efficiency; follow up audits and incidents.
• Provide operational guidance to Masters on voyages, port limits, risks, and security threats.
• Manage relationships with owners and charterers; address inquiries and complaints as needed.
• Ensure compliance with international regulations and class/flag/PSA requirements.
• Identify discrepancies and advise on navigational and cargo operations performance.
• Act as Company Security Officer; support vetting, audits, and inspections.

Job description

As a Marine Superintendent at BSM, you will be responsible for ensuring safe, compliant, and effective vessel operations. Acting as a key link between ship and shore, you will provide operational and navigational support, manage audits and inspections, and drive continuous improvement to uphold international standards and enhance customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities

• Monitor updates and propose improvements in safety, security, and voyage efficiency; implement corrective actions from audits and incidents.
• Provide operational and commercial guidance to Masters, including voyage orders, port limitations, navigation risks, and security threats.
• Manage relationships with owners and charterers; address operational inquiries and complaints when required.
• Monitor navigational and cargo operations to ensure compliance with international regulations and company standards.
• Assist with identifying discrepancies in operational standards and advise on navigational and cargo equipment performance.
• Ensure vessels maintain statutory certifications and compliance with Class, Flag State, and Port State requirements.
• Identify and mitigate operational and security risks.
• Act as Company Security Officer and support Masters during vetting, audits, and inspections; prepare responses and implement corrective actions.
• Prepare and submit reports and statistics on vessel performance in collaboration with relevant teams.
• Handle cargo claims and liaise with P&I/Insurance on commercial disputes when required.
• Conduct appraisals and training for sea staff during ship visits; identify training needs and arrange briefings.

Qualifications & Experience

• M.Sc. or B.Sc. in Maritime Studies, Nautical Science, or equivalent; Master Mariner or Chief Officer qualification.
• Minimum 3 years sailing experience as Master/Senior Officer, preferably with at least 2 years of shore vessel management experience; or at least 6 years as Marine Superintendent in a ship management or owning company.
• Sailing experience with LNG, LPG, Ammonia and Ethane carriers is essential.
• Experience with LNG bunkering is preferred.
