Job description
Responsibilities
  • Ensure vessels operate in compliance with ISM/ISPS Codes, MARPOL, SOLAS, SIRE/CDI inspections, as well as requirements from flag state, port state, and other governing authorities.
  • Assist vessels in maintaining safe operational standards, voyage planning, and compliance with the expectations of terminals, operators, charterers, and oil majors.
  • Supervise and follow up on voyage instructions, tank cleaning, cargo operations, and risk management activities. Verify that cargo and ballast handling plans are carried out safely and in line with regulations.
  • Provide guidance and support to the Master during vetting inspections and external audits including SIRE, CDI, FSI, and PSC.
  • Prepare initial reports for internal and external inspections, audits, and vetting processes, and oversee the execution of necessary corrective actions.
  • Organize and conduct scheduled and unscheduled marine visits, navigational audits, safety observations, and behavioral assessments.
  • Lead the investigation of accidents, near misses, and non-conformities, ensuring prompt reporting and the application of preventive and corrective measures.
  • Contribute technical and marine-related expertise during dry-dockings, repairs, retrofits, and similar projects.
  • Build and maintain effective communication channels with Charterers, Classification Societies, Flag Administrations, and other external stakeholders.
Requirements
  • Possession of a valid Class 1 (Master) Certificate of Competency.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Marine Superintendent, preferably with exposure to chemical tanker operations in ship management or shipping companies.
  • At least 2 years of sailing experience as Master on chemical tankers (advantageous).
  • Well-versed in the SIRE Vetting process.
  • Strong understanding of international maritime legislation, codes, and standards including ISM, ISPS, MLC, TMSA, and Oil Major requirements.
  • Demonstrated experience in carrying out navigational audits, conducting officer briefings, managing inspections, rolling out safety initiatives, and supporting incident investigations.
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English with effective communication skills.
  • Strong analytical ability, results-focused, with proven leadership and interpersonal skills.
  • Self-motivated, resourceful, and capable of handling pressure and deadlines independently.
  • Flexibility to travel at short notice as operational needs require.
