Job summary

Shimano Singapore Private Limited is seeking a Staff Engineer with extensive tooling experience to lead delivery and quality across design, production and inspection. You will set priorities, review schedules, and coach teams to ensure tooling meets drawings and acceptance criteria.

The role requires deep knowledge of tooling manufacturing, assembly and SAP-based planning, with a track record of reducing defects and lead times in a supervisory capacity. This is an on-site position in Singapore.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent with relevant industry experience.
• Minimum 10 years in tooling, mould and die manufacturing or precision engineering, incl. ≥5 years in supervision/management overseeing engineering, production planning or tooling delivery.
• Delivery management experience: capable of managing tooling schedules, capacity planning, resource allocation and recovery actions.
• Strong understanding of precision machining, tooling manufacturing, engineering drawings, tolerances and inspection/trial requirements.
• Quality-control experience: root-cause analysis, corrective/preventive actions, defect reduction and cost of poor quality.
• Leadership: supervising and developing engineers, setting priorities and coordinating cross-functional teams.
• Planning and analytics: proficiency in production planning or SAP and spreadsheet-based KPI monitoring.
• Excellent communication and decision-making skills under tight deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Staff Engineer oversight: set priorities, responsibilities and deliverables for Staff Engineer; review tooling schedules and provide direction.
• Oversee on-time delivery by reviewing commitments based on capacity, material and lead times; supervise from design to shipment.
• Quality governance: ensure tooling meets drawings, specs and acceptance criteria; ensure documentation and approvals are complete before release.
• Risk and recovery management: lead delivery/quality reviews, identify bottlenecks, escalate unresolved issues promptly, implement recovery plans.
• Problem resolution: coordinate root-cause analysis and corrective actions for tooling defects and delays.
• Cross-functional coordination: resolve issues across design, production, quality, procurement and logistics; communicate commitments and changes.
• Performance management and reporting: set targets, review results, provide updates on tooling status, risks and improvements.
• Continuous improvement: drive planning discipline, manufacturing flow, inspection readiness and process standardization to reduce lead time and defects.

Job description

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Staff Engineer oversight: Set clear priorities, responsibilities and deliverables for the Staff Engineer. Review tooling schedules, progress reports and escalations, and provide direction, coaching and technical support.
• On-time delivery accountability: Review and endorse achievable tooling delivery commitments based on capacity, material availability and manufacturing lead times. Oversee progress from design and material preparation through machining, inspection, trial and shipment.
• Quality governance: Work with engineering, production and quality teams to ensure tooling meets approved drawings, specifications and acceptance criteria. Ensure inspection, trial, approval and documentation requirements are fulfilled before release.
• Risk and recovery management: Lead regular delivery and quality reviews, identify bottlenecks and risks early, assign action owners and deadlines, and **escalate** unresolved issues promptly. Ensure recovery plans do not bypass quality requirements.
• Problem resolution: Coordinate root-cause analysis and corrective actions for tooling defects, rework and delivery delays. Verify action effectiveness and prevent recurrence.
• Cross-functional coordination: Resolve issues across design, production, quality, procurement and logistics. Communicate delivery commitments, changes and quality concerns to relevant stakeholders.
• Performance management and reporting: Establish agreed delivery and quality targets, review results and provide management updates on tooling status, risks, recovery actions and improvement progress.
• Continuous improvement: Lead improvements in planning discipline, manufacturing flow, inspection readiness and process standardization to reduce lead time, defects, rework and cost of poor quality.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, or a related discipline, or an equivalent technical qualification supported by relevant industry experience.
• Industry experience: Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in tooling, mould and die manufacturing or precision engineering, including at least 5 years in a supervisory or managerial role overseeing engineering, production planning or tooling delivery.
• Delivery management: Demonstrated experience managing tooling schedules, capacity planning, resource allocation and recovery actions to meet committed delivery dates.
• Technical knowledge: Strong understanding of precision machining, tooling manufacturing, engineering drawings, dimensional tolerances and tooling inspection and trial requirements.
• Quality management: Practical experience with quality-control requirements, root-cause analysis, corrective and preventive actions, and reducing defects, rework and cost of poor quality.
• Leadership: Experience supervising and developing engineers, setting priorities and coordinating cross-functional teams to resolve delivery and quality issues.
• Planning and analytical skills: Proficiency in production planning or SAP systems and spreadsheet-based analysis to monitor capacity, tooling progress and delivery and quality KPIs.
• Communication and decision-making: Strong stakeholder management, problem‑solving and escalation skills, with the ability to balance delivery commitments, resource constraints and quality requirements under tight deadlines.
