Job description

The Manager (Research) will oversee the development, implementation, and monitoring of the Singapore Oceanarium’s conservation research programs. This role is integral in promoting the Oceanarium’s commitment to marine biodiversity and evidence-based conservation. The Manager will lead research efforts in marine conservation that support biodiversity monitoring, species conservation breeding and translocation efforts, ecosystem restoration, threat mitigation, and conservation policy.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement research and conservation efforts that align with the Conservation Master Plan of the Singapore Oceanarium.
  • Foster partnerships with like-minded organisations, facilities, and academia to drive research and conservation collaborations that are aligned with the goals of the Singapore Oceanarium.
  • Coordinate and supervise internal research efforts within the Singapore Oceanarium.
  • Coordinate and supervise efforts for external research collaborations with stakeholders, including ensuring milestones and reporting are achieved according to project timelines.
  • Lead and facilitate the publication of scientific articles in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Engage and participate in conferences, events, outreach, and education efforts to share and showcase the Singapore Oceanarium’s educational and conservation efforts for the advancement of science and conservation of the oceans.
  • Any other projects as part of the Conservation & Science’s initiatives.
Job Requirements:
  • Preferably a Master's or Doctoral degree in Life Sciences, Environmental Sciences or a relevant discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant work experience in a leadership role at a research institution or conservation organization.
  • Track record of publishing peer-reviewed articles in scientific journals.
  • Work experience in regional conservation partnership management is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) standards is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of academic research and research management processes.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the local marine conservation community is preferred.
